after selling my cbr600f for what i paid for it after taking it round europe and about scotland last year, trying to find a similar replacement is looking near impossible and i thought bikes were cheaper this time of year, when theres alot less up for sale and youre talking 2000 for a decent one. I paid 1500 service history, bike was incredibly clean, newish tyres etc!

I think the above is true. I haven't seen any bargains so far. If hardly anyone is selling then prices will rise as long as there's demand, and from what I've seen (eBay auctions etc) there IS demand.

I've noticed that prices are doing well at the moment. I've just bought a zx6r g2 and luckily mananged to get it for quite handy money £1175 but even that seems quite a bit for what is a nearly 14 year old bike. But bikes don't seem to go much below a grand regardless these days.

Its mad when you think a 98 g2 is 1175 and then for 3000 you can pick up a 04/05 even 06 model, that seems disproportionate to me.

Anyway my top tip is to seach less populated areas and be willing to travel. I picked my bike up on ebay from in the sticks of mid wales, obviously the less folks you have to sell to the lower the price.

Well we were told bike prices went up because of the GBP - Euro exchange rate. Even though we are in UK, bikes are purchased from central European suppliers.

Well funnily enough the pound is now €1.20 wheras previously it was around €1 or €1.10

Hmmmm.

My Er6 was £4K just 3.5 years ago now they are £5.5k and the exchange rate is nearly the same. Go figure.

This. More to do with the weakness of pound generally than the strength of anything in particular. Although both the Yen and Euro are doing less badly than the pound.

10 year old Varadero 125, wanting £2000 ovno, and no, that's not a typo.

OK, the seller might be a complete mental, but that's the kind of prices people reckon they can ask when there's not much else on the market.

More bike licensees, fewer new sales, more bikes being exported by Nardo in his Albanian artic = higher prices.

I've noticed this as well.

Bikes seem to hit 'rock bottom' value, and no matter what you do you can only loose a couple of hundred max.

My Fazer as an example will be worth more when I come to sell it that what I paid. 10 years old, 12.5k miles almost immaculate and that'll be up for around £2k.

Similar bikes 2 years ago when I started looking were over £500 less.

I've noticed this alot - I've been debating what to do with my ZX9R, through nothing else than boredom.

Was considering selling as-is, but since looking at what I can get for under £2000, I'd rather spend a few quid on what I have.

Don't I know it - I just checked autotrader and my 2008 ER-6n has already hit £2k. Sad

I imagine a lot more bikes will come up for sale come the first rays of spring sunshine, although sellers will be able to get more for them than in the middle of winter.

I have to sell one of my bikes soon, and was looking at second hand prices for cbr600fy's, to get a roundabout figure of what mine might fetch. Was very disappointed at seeing very nice sorted models go for £1500, especially after spending nigh on £300 on mine... Might just be better to hang on to it.

Hmmm... maybe I should think about selling my XJ600 for a few extra quid then.... '94 and still with less than 10,000 miles on it, in almost mint condition... say £750?

Mint condition comes from coin collectors, if something is in mint condition then it is as a coin would come straight from the mint - i.e. brand new and perfect.

That ^ is not mint.

Prices always start to increase around this time of year as people are looking for "A bike for the summer"

Prices start to drop around september/october.

It happens every year without fail.
