I'm thinking of getting a tailpack for my Hornet but as I have never purchased one before I was wondering what people would recommend . Budget wise I have about £50 to spend.

Kriega US20/30 . I use the US-30 on a speed triple, very secure fittings, easy to use, comes with a shoulder strap for when you are off the bike. Fully waterproof, and has 10 year guarantee.

I had a look at various options, and the Kriega stuff is just in a different league. Very nice bags.

You can get 10% off first order I think too if you register with their VIP scheme as that is what I did!

Hope that helps Smile

Its not for looks but for use as the bike is my usual means of transport. I would like like one that would carry a laptop bag as at present I carry my laptop in a rucksack and it gets a bit uncomfortable after a while when doing long distance call outs.

How easy are they to fit and would it have a problem with the high lvl exhaust on the Hornet?

You could always have a look at the Kriega rucksacks aswell, they're meant for use on the bike and are very comfy!

I've even used to R35 for carrying stuff back home from uni on the train, fully laden with a 17" laptop in it Very Happy comfy as hell!

Can be had off ebay in good condition for around £70

How bigs the laptop? I think you might struggle to find a tailpack that has the dimensions to accomodate a large laptop.

I did buy a large hold-all bag from hein gericke for £6 which is fully waterproof and straps to the back seat... Doesnt have carry handles though Rolling Eyes

What about a tank bag? Obviouslt would need a decent size one lime the one I had on the Daytona...but I really didn't mind having a bag there that I could see all the time, rather than one at the back Laughing

When I commuted with a laptop and work clothes, I just used a large-ish rucksack and a cargo net - lash it to the pillion seat/tail area and voila, one tailpack. I used this approach for weekends away too. For added stability I used a layer of that sticky matting stuff to protect the tail paintwork and keep it all from slipping.

I have a top-box now (I'm 40 now, y'see) but would still happily use my rucktailpacksack and cargo net if required.

The laptop is a 15.4" and currently I use a Targus rucksack but I find it a bit uncomfortable on long journeys. I work for an IT firm as an engineer and sometimes can have to travel over 100 miles in day and I have to carry tools and some spares as well that is why I was thinking of a tailpack or something similar. I have had a look at tank bags but as I have short arms I wouldn't feel as confident riding with one on the bike.

I will soon have tank adaptor plus us20 to complement my r20 and us10. Thumbs Up

Kriega are brill, but you have to go careful with the straps, when you leave the bike, you may accidentally leave the strap hanging on the exhaust, which then melts the strap. But otherwise excellent. Also expandable as shown in the picture. But very expensive.

BAGSTER, as also shown in the picture as. Tank bag are also fantastic, but expensive.

SW Motch are also very good, but expensive.

The cheaper ones like Oxford First tailpack etc are ok, nd I used them when I first leant to ride.

A quick search online also provided this link with some good offers.

https://www.getgeared.co.uk/Motorcycle_Luggage/Motorcycle_Luggage_Deals

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice and links guys. I'm looking at the options available but will probably go for the Kreiga as I can add to it. The last thing I need to take into account is the grab bar but it shouldn't be a problem.

As others have said, if you can afford it then you can't really beat Kriega products.

I've had an oxford 'first time' tailpack in the past that, while decent and functional, always staying secured even with an off or two, did have a tendency to scratch the shit out of my plastics to the point where it looked like crash damage.

Another vote for the Oxford stuff. I have an Oxford sports one, had it for years and used on several bikes, and it has been flawless. Had cups of McDonalds tea spilt in it, taken to Ireland with a tent strapped to the top, left out in all weathers, and nothing has gone wrong with it.

Very sturdy, and you can pick them up secondhand for very little.

I'm a little bit weary of Oxford kit after having 2 pairs of their boots literally fall apart after 6 months of use. and a pair of gloves do the same after 3 months.

I have just bought a set of Oxford 1 soft panniers and they seem to be quite good.
They`ll never do for a trans-continental safari, but for week-enders they`ll be fine.
Two straps over the seat and one strap under the seat + fixing loops + extra straps to use as you see fit + bungees all came with it.
Nice and secure Thumbs Up
