There's always one of these if you somehow manage to get a test done

Gears are easy to learn though.
Before I did my CBT I was a bit apprehensive that I wouldn't 'get' gears. I'd had a go on a bike @15 and the concept of gears didn't sink in and I just ragged the poor thing across a field in first.
But actually learning on a geared bike was a piece of piss for me |

Whats not to get?
Squeeze left hand, press left foot down and release. Twist throttle, release left hand slowly.
You're now rolling around happily in first. Great, so to go faster?
Release throttle, squeeze left hand, place foot under pedal and lift the pedal up. Foot away from pedal, release left hand, twist throttle again.
Repeat above, to go up a gear. However should we want to go down a gear we press the pedal down instead of lifting it up. Should at any point something go tits up squeeze left hand - no power gets to the rear wheel nomatter what the engines doing!
Sit there on the sofa doing it with an imaginary bike & i'm sure it'll come to you quick enough & open up a whole world of possibilities! Ask your local instructor how much they charge for a lesson on a geared bike & see where that gets you. ____________________ Please be aware that the above post may be full of complete nonsense.
