Just riding home and my rear brakes just failed. They were working intermittently then went to use the rear while coming up to a roundabout and nothing, had to use front brakes instead.

Just got it home and pushed the footbrake to check the brakes and brake fluid came shooting out....fuck.

Need to get to work tomorrow, think I could get away with using just the front?

On a sports bike, probably yeah. I'd always be concerned about not having the back as a backup to the front though. Mind you, I rode mine recently without any front brake and got to my destination okay. Just think ahead and don't race around using harsh braking.

I honestly wouldn't know if my rear brake was working or not. It is never used by itself, always with the front brakes...

I use it for scrubbing off speed in corners and when it's not there I really notice it. You'd be suprised how much it's actually used.

So did the fact that they were not working all the time prompt you to look at them Rolling Eyes

Well you do have ALL evening to look at the brakes and fix them before tommorow. Thumbs Up

No they were working fine, then suddenly today on the way home started playing up. They just failed as if there was no fluid in lines. Then pumping got them working again. I can't fix them myself as I don't have a paddock stand to get the rear wheel off, which is a bit shit. Still in the process of moving house and that is the item I don't have.

Wish the brake was like my SV and just undo the bolts to take the brakes off.

What do you want the back wheel off for?
Check the line for leaks, check the caliper for leaks, check pads, and disc, bleed brakes?

the brake fluid is leaking from inside the brake caliper assembly which i cant get to without disconnecting it from the bike... with my ninja that means wheel has to come off. Sad

It does sound as though the distortion seal has split.Or is the caliper a two piece design where the two bolt together? In which case it might be the small 'O' ring that seals the two together.

What's a rear brake?

Only use it to pass your bike test then you can remove it.

You can.....

There are 2 bolts holding the caliper to the hanger.

Undo them - fix it - win

I don't think there is on my model. Will check though.

I got an advisory last year on my MOT for low rear brake pads, I got the same advisory on Friday... for the same pads Very Happy

That's how often I use the back brake, it's shockingly useless.

Should be easy to fix too, barely anything to it.
