hi all,

am currently selling m 06 wr 250 f, and received an email today about someone asking for my frame number so he can 'check the bike'

should i give this to him? surely you only need the number plate to do a hpi check? any harm in giving it to him or should i avoid doing so?

thanks in advance

I'd avoid, i'd be happy to do it in person once I'd gained a bit of trust and they seemed serious. I wouldn't send it to some random on the internet.

The VIN is also used in the HPI check. I ask for it when buying a vehicle. Has the guy come to see it yet or just emailed in a Nigerian accent?

he hasn't viewed the bike or gotten in contact over the phone, merely just sent me an email saying:

"hey fella, nice looking bike, would you emailor txxt the frame number so i can check the bike#@ and how many owners please? and currently moted for how long?cheers"

however ive just checked, he has given me a phone number and also his email, and searching his email it appears he's a dealer.

suspicious? :S

Frame number can also be used to check what year & version a bike is. So it could tell you if it's actually say, a special edition one, or just a normal one with a few extra parts to make it look like the special edition etc,
