My current pair of boots have just packed in and I'm after another pair.

The current ones I've had for 3 years and have been great, they are a short pair and are the same as this, https://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/boots-shoes/bullson-manx-stiefel-schwarz.html

I've seen these which I prefer the styling of and they have them in 13's, https://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/boots-shoes/bullson-travel-ii-sheltexr-boots-black.html

How important is it to have protection all the way up the shin (with taller pairs)?

Depends how likely you are to smash your shins in your crash. Wink

Up to you really, if you're comfortable with shorties then go for it.

Well my thoughts were how well would tall boots actually protect my shins in the event of an accident. I prefer the look of small boots and think they are more comfortable.

Better than nothing I would suggest. Of course the best solution is not to crash.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but it's that age old comfort/convenient v protection thing.

I've ridden in trainers in my younger and more reckless days, but always were boots now.

Yeah, I'd never wear trainers but small boots are a comprimise I suppose, still good ankle/foot protection.

have to say they are both nice boots especially the 1st pair Mr. Green

but thats bikes thou when it comes to compromise, dont they do trousers that have like sheen guards?

personally, ive bought some decent textile protective trousers to wear when im gonna go for a good blat, but if i was going for a ride to meet someone for a drink or just a gentle spin i would where draggin jeans

guess im just saying where your ankle boots for the same, but if you feel a barry sheene coming on get some decent full boots Thumbs Up

It's not just serious crashes, you can have all manner of silly things happen where your lower leg might get knocked hard on the bike or some passing object, and something more substantial over your shin might at least minimise nasty bruising.
