Im off for a bit of a tour with my mate and the women over easter and have either the choice of getting Venturer luggage and using my street triple or buying a cheap bike with luggage.

I rather fancy the cheap bike route and getting something with a bit of wind protection (me a wus, I know) and two up with luggage on the striple won't be much fun anyway. In an earlier thread, someone said a Diversion 900 could be got cheap, really? All the ones I have found with luggage are up around the 1700+ mark and I'm not willing to spend that.

I found this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250992594214?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619

but no MOT could mean an expensive bill to get it road worthy and I have no way to get it home.

So any other suggestions or finds welcome. Basically any bike with hard luggage (full set, well, the missus is coming too so she needs her wardrobe) and large cc.

or is cheap just wishful thinking

Tried looking at early BMW tourers like K75's and K100's? They have good wind protection, pretty good for pillions, can often be found with luggage, and won't break the bank to buy.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-BMW-K100-RS-/300663009206?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item4600e96fb6 turned up in a quick ebay search for example - has high mileage but they're very reliable bikes if looked after.

The additional hassle of MOT & Tax & Insurance for a bike you'll use once or twice would really put me off. Some throwover panniers and a rucksack for the mrs to carry her GHD's would be my preference. Cheap typically means shit, not always, but it is a gamble.

If you're two up, you're hardly gonna be wringing the neck of the ST, so I would just use that.

Prices of fixer-upper super-tourers; does give them a certain appeal.
BUT; I think it would probably mar my holiday worrying about the possibility of a fixer-upper hundreds of miles from my tool-box!

For what you can get something pretty useful for; & what you can sell on for after? Hit of the overheads; depreciation? Interest on the Credidt Card used to buy it? MIGHT not be too big a burden....

Old Deauville 650. Bombproof, comfy, built in panniers and cubby holes, big fairing. Bit chuggy, but cheap if a high miler.

Get it while its hot!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-XJ900S-DIVERSION-YAMAHA-XJ900-FULL-KAPPA-LUGGAGE-/270912533264?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item3f13a53310

I wouldn't mind that myself if I actually needed another but alas the 900 Diversion is so reliable a steed you don't need a backup!
Good low mileage Divvies do fetch a fair bit though as they are a popular bike as boring as they may appear they tick all the right boxes for the sort of people who want one. Aircooled, shaft drive, big 200 mile+ tank range etc etc, indestructible engine capable of crazy miles with little attention.
I paid £1200 for mine, money well spent.
I suppose if you wanted cheaper why not look out for an earlier xj900f as unfashionable as they are still a good choice for budget touring and can be had for less than divvy money.

That's a real pity, that thing looked pretty well kitted out!
I think I did well to get mine for £1200.
