What are the chances of the police letting you off having illegal tyres IF you sort them there and then when caught?

Otherwise I realise it is 6 points and £30 per illegal tyre?

IF said person had no valid insurance too, which is 6 points and £200.. are they looking at loosing their licience?

Sad

Depends what kind of cop you get, some might be alright and let you off one tyre, but if both a bald then they'll probably do you for it. For the cost of two tyres you get both a safer bike and remove the risk of getting caught, worth it IMHO.

No cop is going to let you off having no insurance though. The 6 points just isn't worth the risk.

Sounds royally fucked tbh.

6 points, IN10 and £200+ fine.

Might get less points, but not sure Neutral

They will be summoned to a Magistrates court and charged with no insurance which will result in code IN10 and 6 points on their licence. Expect £200+ fine.

You may be lucky enough to only be charged with the insurance offence - I would definately try anyhow.

Not the end of the world and depending on how many points they already have then they could still keep their licence.

Yes it is funny. Every time I pay for a tyre it makes me feel all warm in side knowing the there are people out there who care so little for their own safety and others as well as the feelings of their loved ones that they knowingly ride around on bald tyres. That was sarcasm but then I have been hit from behind by someone on an XJ600 with a bald front tyre who couldn't stop, the canvass wasn't very grippy.

As to the insurance bit do you really want sympathy?

It brings a great big smile to my face every time someone is rightfully nicked for no insurance or having a defective vehicle on the road.

Thank Kris, that is what I am hoping. He has a clean licence at the moment.

The tyres are bald in one patch, but IMHO not horrific.. I am all for good tyres, but I was not horrified that he is riding it.

Hence.. sort it now and get the evidence that you took them seriously..

The IN10 - sux balls, but can not be avoided.

I have my fingers crossed !

Did he maybe not use this bald patch in the wet?

Nope, I don't want sympathy thanks.

The insurance was an accident. . . not quite sure how but an admin/date cock up.

Anyone that does it on purpose - hell yeah, completely agree.

Check it really is illegal. Bikes are subject to a 1mm min tread depth while cars are subject to a min 1.6mm tread depth. Many (including non traffic police) don't realise this and assume 1.6mm applies to both.

If close to the limit they might have got away with a defect ticket, but if not handed out at the side of the road instead of a penalty I suspect there is no chance of that now.

If the tyre is truely bald (ie, well past the limit) then not much chance they will get away with it as they would be viewed as having been riding round on a dodgy tyre for quite some time.

All the best

Keith

Considering that if this cock up was by the broker he is insured perhaps you should pursue this. If by him, oh well.

Unless he is your child or mentally deficient this can in no way be your responsibility. Unless you knew the tyres were bald and that he had no insurance that is.

What paperwork did they issue with the stop? If they issued a defect notice and not an FPN for the tyres then 'he'll' likely be off that bit. Sometimes lesser offences just get forgotten when there's a biggie like IN10 to go through. Likewise sometimes the CU penalty can just go through as one endorsement regardless of the number of defects.

Could get lucky, I guess.

If 'he' gets the full 12 points then it'll be a totting up ban, 30 days I think. Assuming not within the new driver probationary period?

He only found out he didn't have insurance when the copper checked his details. He swears now that he does and it must be a mistake.

The tyre - yes he is a retard and I need to punch him a few times.

Paper work - he got given nothing at all - the coper said he would receive a letter in the post (I assume about the insurance).

What is the nature for the no insurance? As letters should have been sent out informing of the issue.

Also, loose is slack, lose is lost, you can't loose a licence but you can lose one Thumbs Up

Fairly sure they'd have had to caution him for the offence for which they were intending to serve prosecution. He should know which offence or offences they were.

Presumably with him being uninsured they took the bike too?

No... they said, 'I could impound your bike but I am not going too, you will receive a letter in the post soon'... . then drove off leaving him at the side fo the road - At that point he called me to tell me the good news.

Reckon they are just on it with the insurance.....

Hi

For the insurance they will just be checking the motor insurance database. If he has recently taken out his cover (ie, in the last week or 2) then a fair chance it has just not got on there yet.

Get him to chase up his insurer now. Find out what they are playing at. They might have cancelled the cover (but the rules for that are complicated and meant to be done mutually). They might have got his registration number wrong somewhere (or the copper might when he checked).

All the best

Keith
