I'm ashamed to say that I am useless with things like this. I read and understand the instructions in the manual and then get stuck immediately when I actually try it.
In the owners manual it says to first spin the back wheel until you find the tightest part of the chain. It all looks the same to me so I moved on.
Next it says to loosen certain nuts. Loosen seeming a bit vague to me but anyway. Here's where I hit my first problem. The brake torque nut I am supposed to loosen will not budge. It doesn't look rusted and the bike is a 2010 model so doubt it's stuck, it just feels as though I'm doing something wrong. It has a split pin in the bolt if that matters.
So how important is this bit? What would happen if I didn't loosen it? |

If there's a split pin running through the nut and bolt than it's not going to budge. Just remove the pin, keep it to replace later.
I presume this is the wheel nut? On the end of the axle?
Sometimes you will need a bar to slip over the ratchet, as they can be quite tight.
Then once it's loosened, rotate the wheel, use your finger to push the chain up halfway between the two sprockets, and when it gets to the point when it moves up the least, work from here.
You will want to adjust the chain adjusters equally on both sides, so that your rear wheel isn't put at an angle, until the chain has the recommended slack. I think about 1.5 inch or so is usual.
The just lock off the adjusters, check the tension again, then tighten up the wheel nut and hey ho lets go. ____________________ My Bikes - - - Royal Enfield 500 with sidecar, VFR800, CBR600FX,
