I looked into this quite a bit as I was researching what bike to get that can do exactly the same.

The first question is, how big are you two? Pillion for me and my fiancee is basically the same weight as a fat man. When you read some of the American forums, the combined weight of husband and wife doesn't seem to be far off a rugby team.

The Versys, however, seems to be universally criticised for pillion capacity; you're really high up. Ash at Ashonbikes has written about it. The Transalp is much better and often favourite of many pillions. But I think the V Strom is probably best, the most reknowned budget mile eater without going down some sort of silly BMW route.

Big enough yes, comfortable no. But on the other hand I don't know of a bike that is comfortable for 250 miles a day every day.

Ignore Lupine, he is a bit on the silly side.

The V is a good bike...

650 would be Ok, so long as you are aware of the load on it.... Now the new 1000 V would be something to look at.

Personally my V handles better with a pillion, then again she is around 6 stone wet through...... Laughing

Thing is you won't be doing 250 miles every day will you.

Pop over the the Versys forum as there are plenty who have done long range touring on them Thumbs Up

Generally I've found pillions like to be a bit higher up so they can more easily see what's going on.

That's certainly true as long as you aren't pushing it (and sitting on a bum pad on a sports bike of course)

Pillion on a sports bike 'pushing it' is my preferred pillion position, personally. Get a decent lean over with one hand on the tank and you're not thrown back nearly as much.

I sometimes think the old way my girlfriend is getting on the back of my bike is if I buy a Goldwing. Cool
