Computer Problem

I think i may have a virus on my main computer. Now I don't want to have to completely wipe my Hard drive as theirs far too much stuff to back up.

Now Everytime i seem to open programs or when windows starts up, i keep getting bad image pop up bar which makes the computer beep.

I mean the computer works, but these pop up everytime you open a program.

It reads "The Application is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette"

I have free Anti Virus on which doesn't pick anything up (AVG)

Wondering how to get rid of it really.

EDIT i see CaNsA beet me to it so all I can say is.

also make sure that AVG is up to date as if not then it won;t pick up the newer viruses as the data base will be an old one.

Have you installed any new programs or drivers?
Replaced any DLL files?
Deleted anything manually?
