How does you bike react to a passenger? what bike do you have? do you take a passenger often?

Just wondering, mines better after some new tyres but still a bit wobbly, is there anything like wheel bearings that could be intensifyed by takeing a passenger?

I take a passenger every couple of weeks on average, most i've done is from derby to matlock (50 miles or so) give mates a lift home and things...

Hi

Depends on the bike. The RS125 is not much fun with a pillion (managed 97mph though).

Check the rear shocks and tyre pressures, adjusting if needs be for a pillion.

All the best

I've got a ZX-6R, at low speed it wobbles like a bitch, although I'm really not used to taking a pillion so it may just be me.

Ah, should have mentioned, its a 70's equivalent of a duevilie (cx500) shocks are at their hardest and pressures are ok, its always been a bit squirmy...
Ack i'd never take a pillion on a 125! Shocked (but i'm a wuss i suppose) having said the my first ride on a bike was on a private car park with my mate sat on the bike Twisted Evil (no more than 20mph but felt pretty fast at the time!).

Was just wondering on how people thought their bike coped with a passenger really and what bikes they are, some i'd never think of coping are supposedly great!

My CBR feels a bit wobbly (but as colin said, it may just be me) with anyone i've ever taken on it except for my 'light' little brother, then it's just like riding on my own!

The NSR doesn't seem to mind pillions much although the engine does sound ten times louder Neutral it scares the hell out of my pillions Laughing I literally have to bribe people to hop on the back for a ride - everyone keeps chickening out Sad . Handling is fine at speeds higher than 25 or so. Going slow though I do have to keep my feet ready to stabilise the bike - wobbles like mad Shocked

I always felt that the zx9 was more planted with a pillion

the zx12 is only a bit different in that it is a lot taller but Lucky did 50 or so miles on the back last summer in Northumberland twisites and he managed to stay on Twisted Evil

I don't think the seat cover has been off since

The vx800 felt more planted with a pillion, generally because they were asleep and so I was riding more smoothly.

That said, a pillion calmed the rear end down a bit - the back wheel was miles behind me and I don't weigh much. A sleeping one leans nicely with the bike, so I could dip it quite low on those runs.

I don't really notice...but I do feel more confident when cornering with a pillion and have scraped my centre stand many times with someone on the back! And no...it's not down to a saggy rear end as it has been stiffened by the previous owner.

The CBR is fine, only wobbles about if the pillion doesn't sit still. Actually find it feels more planted in corners but thats because I'm light and haven't adjusted the suspension to suit me and as such the extra weight overcomes me been a lightweight.

Blade's fine really, my pillion is only a light shortarse though and it's loads better since I bought some lurve handles for her to grip onto. You just need to ride/accelerate/brake more smoothly really and it's not a problem.

I once took a work mate to the garage to pick up his Blade from a service. It was when my Blade had been written off and I was using my wifes NSR. It was about an eight mile trip and he's about 6.2" and 14 stone. It was quite funny, he could put both feet on the floor when sitting on the pillion seat, so I told him to save us if we were going to fall off. Fortunately the NSR was de-restricted otherwise the four or so miles of dual carriageway would have been even more painful.

It handled ok considering the extra ballast on the back, it took what seemed like an age to get up to speed though and I had to think about braking a lot more.

I myself have not taken a pillion on the back yet,, Shocked ,and i doubt i will as being a short arse i am very tippy tippy toe on the r1 and feel i shoudn`t really risk it.
But hubby has taken me on the back and his old r1,sp1,blade,my old r6 and r1 they all seem to handle better with a bit of weight. He is only 9 stoneish so that bit more weight helps plant the bike more.
I think also how the pillion is on the back helps also,if they go with the flow it helps but if they don`t then wobbles are us! Laughing

My ZX6R feels a little bit wobbly at slow speeds, especially around town. However it feels really planted and solid when going fast.

Blade's fine with a Pillion. Only a little less responsive and I still get the pegs down a bit too often.
My Gixxer750 actually rode better with Chez on the back. Turned it into an almost stable ride Very Happy

My SV is fine, doesn't go as fast tho, as expected. I'm used to taking pillions on all sorts and i'd say it all depends on how the pillion sits on the bike - If they get really close to you, put their arms around you instead of using a rear rail it keeps the mass closer to the centre and makes a world of difference. And this is also good if it's a person you fancy on the back too Wink

CBR's fine once you're going. Little pillions I barely notice, big blokes are a bit of a pain at low speed cos they make me wobble and I worry that when I come to a stop I won't have the strength to hold us all up if we stop a bit off-centre. Though I can get my feet flat when there's a pillion, which is nice.

Kev was ok cos the only time he's been on the back of my bike was his first time back on a bike after his Blade crash and he was sitting very still. G wriggled like a fecker all the way filtering down the M25 on the way to Lydden and if I'd been able to reach round I'd have slapped him one. Laughing

I'm a pretty terrible pillion myself, I've been on the back of my bike with Kev riding quite a few times (which is worse cos it's my bike he's gonna bin too!) and apparently I tend to try and crush him when he does something I wouldn't do. But, to be fair, I'm a terrible passenger in a car too. Confused

SR is totally horrible, just feels like you're going to crash contstantly and the brakes do almost nothing. The VFR is a little bit wobbly at slow speed, but once you get going it's fine, except there is a lot less power. I've only taken a small pillion though.

Hey! I don't fidget, A man can't help it if his nuts need scratching. Wink
I probably seemed to move when you were doing 120mph and suddenly duck very quickly, giving me a huuuuuuge wind blast and nearly sending me off.

Anyway back to my main point, pillions can't make that much difference to the feel of a bike, as long as they behave and stuff. The other week Mike didn't even notice that I had climbed onto the back of his CBR. Later on into the journey he also managed to get his knee down around a round about over and over and over again with me on the back. (There you go mike i've done it for you, feel better now?) Thumbs Up
So yeah it can't make too much difference.

It's true, I never had a problem on either the RS125 or the CBR250 with pillions, it makes the speed a bit difference and acceleration is slower but handling it really doesn't effect.

I will try getting some pics of the 2 up knee down when I get chance, the copper that arrived at the roundabout must have thought it was cool too because he didn't pull me for it. Razz

My old man bought a Yam SZR660 a few years back, some stomping single cylinder thing.

It was a crock of shite with two people on though, all wobbly and didnt feel too good at speed around corners.

I guess it depends on the bike and the setup and whether your pillion is a fatty and if they have pillion experience. If they don't and they fidget quite a bit then I know it's a pain in the arse!
