I posted on here a while back that I was having trouble with my battery dying. It died when it had been raining and from then th e battery had troubles. Id charge the battery once a week through a charger and it would work then die again. I done this for about a month untill it filly died out. I have now bought a new battery and it's died again. This is very annoying lol. What else could it be that is making this happen ?

1. Something is draining the battery when everything should be off? Remove the battery (-) lead and connect an ammeter between the lead and the battery and check the reading with everything turned off. Start with a 20A range and reduce the range if necessary to detect a reading.

2. Faulty charging circuit? With the ammeter connected as above, check the charge current at tick-over and mid revs. Disconnect ammeter and re-connect battery (-) terminal and check across the (+) and (-) battery terminals with a voltmeter (20VDC range). Should be 13.2v to 14.5v max and shouldn't drop below 13v with lights on full.

3. Duff battery? Sometimes a battery can be sitting around dry for ages before being sold as new - take it back and get it checked properly.

4. Bad earth? With a meter set to read 0-100 ohm resistance, check between the battery (-) terminal and several points on the frame and engine.

5. Faulty alternator? If you can get to the 3 wires that come from the alternator windings, check the resistance with an ohmmeter between the pairs of wires (1 and 2, 2 and 3, 1 and 3) the readings should be the same or very close.

A faulty regulator can sometimes cause the battery current to flow back through the alternator windings when the engine is off. Over charging can quickly kill an otherwise perfect battery.

Hope this helps.

Okay so the probelms I was having with my bike are now resolved as mentioned the battery kept dying so I change the battery an that kept dying. When the RAC came out they said change the regulator so I did and it died again Shocked. Then I was advised the change the alternator and this is when I took it to a repair shop. All that was up with the bike was a loose fuse wire. Battery was fine reg was fine and alternator was fine.

Cost was only £40 and the bike runs perfectly now Very Happy
