Hey guys, I'm taking my restricted licence mod 2 later in March, and if I pass am considering upgrading my bike from the YBR (money dependent) to a Bandit/GSX650F, if I wait for another 6 months and get a years no claims it goes down by about £150, but if I change policy it stays at around £700TPFT. I'm just wondering what other people pay for a similar bike/policy and if this is about right? For the record im 17 (18 when I do my test) and don't want a 250 before anybody starts
I also tried for a quote on a Zx-6r for giggles and NO company would insure me out of 20 for less than £1500TPO
I dont like insurance. ____________________ Ybr 125 > Bandit 650SA > GSXR 600 > Triumph Sprint St1050 > CB1300 > Z1000SX + FJ1200 (written off) > VFR750 >FJ1200 |

Hi.
Are you stating on the insurance that the bike is modded, as in there is a restrictor? If so, that pushes premiums up.
I have the view that it is part of your license so has nothing to do with the insurance, if you say it's restricted, it is and you shouldn't have to state this to them, they should just expect it.
Bandit is an okay bike to start with, but have you thought about the likes of an er-5, if you like those kind of looks?
I went from a CG125 at £135pa, to a GPZ500s (which felt like a bloody superbike coming from the 125), which cost me £240 for the year, tpft, when i was 18.
Worth a shot mate
Sports bike are always more expensive on insurance.
I'm 20 now, with 2 years no claims, and a ZX6r is still around £600-700 for insurance... whereas my CBR600f is just under £400.
500cc parallel twins are fantastic bikes, and you should definitely look at getting one.

To be honest that isn't that bad (I'm 20), I've checked insurance for when I pass my test at the moment I pay £450 for third party on a Cb125. However when I pass my test the insurance doesn't go down it stays the same.
Also checking the regular 500cc commuters/cheap insurance big bikes most are between £550 and £650 third party none are cheaper than what I'm paying right now. Which is most probably due to the area I live in. ____________________ CB125>CG125>GN125>ER5>K100RS>R1100RS>K100RS
