You really ought to go and actually try the helmet on. My head measures at 60 (I know, big 'ed), but when I went to buy one, we tried the medium (58) and that fit perfectly.

There may also be a case of different brands just not fitting you at all, regardless of what size you go for.

Basically, go and try helmets on, no use wacking out a big load of money to find that it doesn't fit (plus, lots of places won't accept helmet returns).

My first lid was a large because of my piercings, now that I've taken them all out strangely I can get into some extra small's.

Got a medium now, but can still comfortably wear a hat under it... As advised, go to a shop and try them on, if they are a tight fit to begin with then that is probably the right size (apparently), as the padding starts to age it fits better.

Most helmets have a double number fitting...Suomy for example come in sizes such as:

xs = 53/54
s = 54/55
m = 55/56

I know I'm a 54, but finding a plain black 54 in my price range has been a wee bit tricky over the years.

Best bet is to go lid shopping when it's warm, so by the time you've tried on a few (with a helpful shop assistant who know's their stuff), you should find out which one's feel snug and those which kill your forehead in no time. Thumbs Up
