Okay, so I've been riding my 50cc scooter (yes, i know, its a scooter, but i'm 16, its all i can have) for just over a fortnight now. The thing i have noticed, is that being stuck on a scooter, not a single biker nods at you, even if you nod at them first, they either stare at you as they go past, or look the other way in disgust. What i want to know is whats the crack with this then? Don't you think that its just a little bit nasty to not consider 50cc riders as actual bikers? I know that they can only do slow speeds, but blame the UK government for that, were not bad people, were just trying to do the best we can, with what we can have. We would certainly appreciate a nod as you lot power past us on your crotch rockets. And at the end of the day we are learning how to ride, so one day we could be as good as you lot. A moped wouldn't be my first choice of bikes, and I intend on getting rid of it as soon as i turn 17 (11 months time), but its a way of getting around, and its on two wheels, which as far as i'm concerned, is the most fun way of getting around. So, what I'm asking, is why don't scooter riders get the same kind of treatment as other bikers, after all, we are only trying to learn?

I think it's more about how you dress and act than what you ride. Trackies, tee and trainers and you're not likely to get a nod from anyone. I guess it's just experience from others. You start off nodding at them, they don't nod back for the majority, so you just get over doing it.

I'll just point out, i wear full, proper gear, Shoei helmet, Hein Gericke textile jacket, and Hein Gericke textile trousers, topped off with some decent boots, I'm clever enough to learn that even a spill at such a slow speed is enough to give more gravel rash than i would like.

Unfortunately you're not yet a biker, you're a chav on a scooter.
It'll all change when you're 17 and get a proper bike, or become a brain dead mong in a cage. Thumbs Up

I will nod to a Ped, so long as he/she is wearing decent gear i.e. taking it seriously.

Most of the time a Ped is ridden by a chav hooning it as fast as he can, and I will do all in my power not to be associated with that.

Same as above, if you are showing a good attitude, you will get a nod, there are plenty of 17yr old 125 riders who I don't nod to because they ride like idiots, never mind just peds.

At the end of the day, we are all bikers and you can only ride what your allowed by law, but I think for most people there's a certain level of "proving yourself", which starts when the Ls come off...

Seriously well done on understanding the importance of wearing the right gear though, sounds like you're making the right first steps!

I remember my first 3 nods, I missed them all Laughing

It was wet, windy and I was on my first bike I just picked up and riding 20 miles home in rush hour Shocked

I only found out when I go home, when my mate who was driving behind me said 'Bet you feel like a proper biker now after all those nods'

I usually only nod when I'm nodded at and don't miss it
