I have my cbt test this Wednesday and I've been told its too nice to have for first bike, I'm also scared of the risk of it being stolen because its very attractive to thieves.

Also is it normal for the insurance to be costing £1400 comprehensive for a 18 year old on provisional? IT seems too much, might as well get a car. Would you advise be to go for Third party only option?

Do you think It will be a high risk of it being stolen? How can I prevent it

Should I get this bike? any advice would be much appreciated

I suppose it could well be 'too nice' for a first bike. But at the end of the day if you like it / have seen one then you may aswell. Also depends if your planning on taking your test or keeping a 125 for a bit?

You'll be advised to get a standard commuter style 125 like the Honda CG or Yamaha YBR - both do the job of learning how to ride perfectly.

With regards to the insurance I'm getting similar quotes on 125's (18 also) they seem to have shot up a lot recently ! Thumbs Down

The thing you could do is look at 3rd Party fire and theft insurance -that any cheaper? However most will have ridiculous compulsory excess's like £750 or £500 so when your bikes worth say £1300 and TPFT costs £950 Against TPO's £300. Its not worth doing! Depends what you want to do!

Most probably would be a high risk to get stolen. The general consensus is if they want it they will have it.

Best way is to probably keep it in a garage / house / shed if possible if not lock it up well and cover it. If you have to leave it on the street I'd definately consider third party fire and theft!

Hope that helped a little.. Good luck Thumbs Up

You are a beginner.

It's a 125cc 'the perfect beginner bike'.

What more could you want?

Go for it. When you've passed your test, you will probably sell up and get something better and faster and more pleasing anyway; you will look back and wonder why you made so much of a fuss over what 125cc to get. Thumbs Up

Bludy Hell! £4200 list price! For a dirt bike with zero dirt capability!

Yeah! OK.... Well, its cheaper than a YZF-R125 I suppose, doesn't have such limited steering lock, and you can at least see over your shoulder!

But fuck ME! Sorry, but personally I would NOT pay four fucking grand... well... probably not for ANY bike! Let alone a 125 Learner-Bike!

Not when I could get as much functionality out of a £2500 YBR125, also brand new!

Thats like £1700, or nearly 70% 'more' simply for the looks!

Nope.... sorry, I would be loath to pay list price for any new bike, and especially agrieved to pay that kind of money for a 'tiddler'.

NOT when I could buy a three year old YBR125, nice, tidy, still pretty tight and useful, that is unlikely to give me any grief or cost me a lot of money in repairs of maintenence for less than a third that; maybe £1500... and which would do EVERYTHING the WR would, and see me through tests, and leave me nearly THREE GRAND in my pocket... Cost of the depreciation on WR alone, could aford to throw the YBR away when done with it, and STILL have enough dosh to go get something a lot more exiting with as my first 'big-bike'.... and that's without the hammer blow of over priced insurance!

I REALLY dont know if you are intending to buy new, though; but either way, that is a HELL of a lot of money, for not a lot of bike, that WILL be a tea-leaf magnet; that you almost inevitably will skuff up in some kind of spill or other, and that does very little for the money, other than fullfill some sense of 'style'!

End of the day, its your life, your money and your call; BUT! Old addage, a fool and his money are SOON parted!

my mate has a WR 125 its VERY nice quick enough for a learner comfy i had a play and loved it Very Happy
they are not cheap but if you think of it as a keeper theyre great transport and last well my mate one looks brand new and it dont get washed more n once a month Razz

my opinion haveing rode all the major 125s (r 125 rs 125 wr 125 cg ybrs ect)
the WR is an expensive but very fun 125 with good reliability fantastic handleing (for what it is) very easy to ride and amazeing in town perfect for doing a lot of filtering on ect

if you have the cash to buy it then insurance should be a secondary concern Razz

It will be stolen, don't bother claiming.

Get TPFT insurance, get a YBR. Do test and then get a WR250

This, unfortunately. It is highly desirable for thieves because it's a super cool off road bike init. Get a cheap bike, do your tests and ride something that is actually nice.

Nothing looks cool with L plates. End of.

Aye when it comes to the cost of the bike not worth spending that much if your buying new, and for that kind of money I'd at least expect a DT 125 and insurance to boot if thats what you really want (styling wise of course DT can actually shift its arse when you twist the throttle better than any 4 stroke commuter in a dress).

Better off with commuter as others have said, then learning and getting test out of way opens up a whole world of opportuniy to buy a whole load of great and shit bikes w/o the CC cap and can save money in long run.

Are you rich or something? I wouldn't spend more than about £1200 on a first 125cc bike.

I don't know why you are being quoted such a massively high price for insurance, unless you live in the crime-ridden streets of the East End of London and the bike is going to be parked on-road it shouldn't cost more than £1000 and I'd expect it to be closer to £500.

Why would you even spend that much on a 125, you could get a 2009 YBR or something simple for <1200 and use the rest of the money to pass your bike test and buy a real bike, with much more variety and probably cheaper insurance

Plus you WILL drop it at some point
Fact.

buy my city fly for 600 when I pass my test in the summer (I WILL PASS!!) Wink i've never dropped it....however the previous owner did ¬_¬ all works fine though just a few not so pretty marks.

very little point spending loads on your first bike. Get a cheap beater, ride for a few months (mine will have been just over 6 months in summer) then get ye test done.
