I thought I should start a new thread for this. I might look at the paddock stand...would be handy for removing the front wheel.

Opinions on the gloves and boots? My friend who is starting out in the biking world got some lidl trousers but is otherwise gearless for now.

https://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/offers_week09Thursday12.htm?WT.z_src=main

Anyone recognise the helmet? Looks close to some of the Box offerings but who knows who it's made by...

I wouldn't trust it myself. A set of bolt croppers would chop straight through. Get a decent disc lock from a well known company like Oxford. They're not too much money.

It'll do the job if you've got nothing else, and for a tenner its a good deterent. Its not so much the make, but the thickness of the chain. Most cheaper chains have 10mm links which can be cut quickly and easily.

The decent chains tend to have 14mm links... but weigh alot more. I just tend to use more then one form of security Very Happy

The last time those boots came around, they seemed a bit stiff, wont be too comfy to walk around in, and i note it only says water resistant Sad

I like the look of the paddock stand but am not sure if it would be suitable for the Hornet.

I was in Aldi in Sowerby Bridge this morning - they have lids for £40, loads of waterproofs, disk locks, rucksacs, thermals, kidney belts, gloves and boots. I had a peruse whilst the OH studied the frozen peas, and out of all of it the waterproofs, rucksacs and 'low' boots looked worth it. I wouldn't bother with the disk locks or the lids though...

Every time I've bought something at Aldi, I go in a week or two later and its reduced.

I'll do the same with this bike stuff.

I nipped in earlier to have a look at the coat as a spare, fitted perfect, nice and plain but, the armour is made from cardboard ( not a problem as everytime I throw away some gear if it's beyond usage I remove the armour, so I have a bag full ) and the finishing on the stitching didn't look too clever so I left it in the end...

I did however buy two of the car boot bags to keep said boot tidy, 4 quid thankyouverymuch, Argos wanted near enough a tenner last time I noticed them...

Hmm. My dad has had a bad experience with their stuff, like a pitchfork he bought snapped in half on the same day he got it. Was only breaking up soil..he never learns, bought a microwave from there..it broke down 2 weeks later.

I'd be worried about how safe they are to use..

Went to the bradley stoke aldi today and came out with these! Very Happy
https://i39.tinypic.com/2ujibyg.jpg

Missed out on the Lidl stuff when I went there 2 days after they put the bike stuff on sale, so wasn't going to miss the opportunity!

Just hope the socks have some breath-ability, otherwise your feet and ankles will roast in this sunny weather that seems to have appeared from nowhere.

They've got some decent stuff on sale; neck warmer, balaclava, chain and padlock, socks, boots etc.

I want the chain, but it does weigh a bit and I've got a long walk to the station with an additional 4 hour train journey ahead of me, so fcuk that.
I'll go to aldi when I get back home, as I can't see they'll be flying off the shelves anytime soon.

If you haven't been and had a look yet, it's certainly worth a browse. Thumbs Up

Has anyone bought any of the other kit available? The chain looks interesting, good for one to leave at work, and the boots look kinda ok. Any quick reviews anyone?

I`ve been to the Ipswich branch today and had a look at the kit the`re selling.

The chain = is not top of the range , but a thief is not going to get through that in a hurry.
The padock-stand = is ok and I was impressed enough with what I saw to buy one Thumbs Up
The neck warmer? = not impressed!
the gloves? = well they might do as a spare pair to keep in case your normal gloves are unusable for some reason.
The boots = not impressed.

These are only my personal opinions, but hey there you go Thumbs Up

My mate had the lock and he still uses it now. It's good for the money but I would recommend using other security as well, like a disc lock.

My uncle has a set of the thermals from a couple of years ago and they're still alright and he reckons they're quite toasty.

I personally had the textile jacket and trousers that they had in 2 years ago (I'm miffed they didn't have them in this time actually) and that is still perfectly useable, apart from being a bit dirty and the flourescent yellow is not as bright as it once was...but other than that a good jacket IMO Thumbs Up

Cheers for that Mikey. I've got a disc lock and alarm, but always like to chain it to something when it's in a public car park for about 10 hours a day!

Don't blame ya matey...anything to keep the thieving scum away Thumbs Up

The only thing I would tell you to do is checkl the length of the chain...I think they're only 0.8 - 1 metre as a rough guess, so just check it'll go round your bike and what you want to lock it too Wink

Well my back wheel is massive, but I think it'll be long enough. Even if it isn't round anything but the wheel it' is still better than nothing.
