After 12 months and 22 days the motor in my Hotpoint washing machine died last week. Outside the 12 month warrenty so I had to fix it myself.

Today, as Im cooking dinner the thermostat packed up in my Hotpint oven allowing the element to get so hot it has burned a hole through the base of the oven. 12 months and 29 days old.

I swear these things have a timer in them so they self destruct as soon as the warrenty is out.

And this 3 weeks after my mate got an electric shock from his Hotpont fridge freezer. I am NEVER buying Hotpoint again, bunch of arse that they are. My last oven I only replaced as it was too wide to fit in the new house.

Anyone got a reccomendation for a 600mm wide double electric oven??

https://www.washerhelp.co.uk/buying-advice-1.html

Since a good quality washing machine can be reasonably expected to last 15 years, even the cheapest one should last 3.

You have legal recourse up to five years for appliances that should be expected to last years:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/theoneshow/consumer/2009/07/03/sale_of_goods_act_letter_downl.html

Get back to the shop and have those two items replaced.

Well well well thank you Hetzer, I spent £89 fixing the washing machine and am going to have to replace the oven (cant go without one) so fingers crossed something will come of that.....

Will pass it on to my mate with the fridge too. Especially after finding the watchdog article.

This is why I have 2nd hand appliances, except fridge and freezer.

Washer/dryer - £30 off ebay for one thats a couple of years old. Last one did 18 months, current one is still going strong at two years.

Cooker - £50 off ebay for NEFF gas hob/electric over.

Warranties? Cost more than a decent 2nd hand appliance.

I fell foul of these arseholes today. Before I go off on one bear in mind my kitchen is furnished throughout with hotpoint stuff (by some kind of weird co-incidence) Ive got a fridage, a cooker and a dishwasher.

Spent 35 minutes today on the phone to them because a dishwasher I bought only lasted one cycle before giving up the ghost and gving me a fault code that the manual or the internet wouldnt explain.

Some background....

I bought the kitchen in October/November 2010 for a house renovation to take advantage of the 0% chucky they had going on. I took delivery in late january 2011. I didnt fit the dishwasher until late november and then only tried it a few weeks later.

The utter cow on the end of the phne refused to help me as the item had been manufactured in December of 2010 and it was now 'the end of december 2011'. She couldnt get it through her thick skull that it wasnt insta=teleported from Korea or whatever to my house. She wanted me to buy the extended warranty.

Eventually got through to some ponce who gave me a free callout via 'goodwill' or as I would call it 'common decency'.

Utter wankers of the highest order Twisted Evil

I tell them straight that if my telly, fridge, washing machine etc. chucks it before five years I will bring it back and camp in the doorway until I have found resolution.

I think in the last ten years I have NEVER had to replace a white goods just coz it broke/broak.

Retailers try every scare scam to sell warranty. Never heeded that Pony either.

I must be pure mental me. Evil or Very Mad

Very Happy

I once went for an interview for a role with electrolux and as part of my prep I visited an independent electrical retailer and was told to avoid Hotpoint like the plague.

My rented accomodation has a fridge freezer, cooker, washing machine and dishwasher manufactured by Hotpoint. Doh.

Apparently you don't need to cross your fingers for another 12 months or so.

Bit of an update this. After the best part of 3 hours on the phone to hotpoint last week I managed to get someone to come out and look at it under their 5 year parts warranty. The "technitian*" has just left, he says that it is abuse and it will not be repaired under the hotpoint 5 year warranty.

How a known fault can be classed as abuse is anyones guess! A copy of Hetzers letter has been sent but no reply as of yet.

But on the upside a nearly new oven has popped up on gumtree for £50. If I buy that Im taking the old one back to currys and leaving it on the customer service desk.

As hetzer would say. fvcking cvnts.

*By technitian I mean a confused, possibly drunk eastern European who was unsure of even how to turn the thing on let alone fix it.

Shagging the Burd/Missus on top of a washer machine set for Coloureds at Fast Spin is recognised as abuse.

(Domestic Appliances and Use of Act 1997 Sub Par 002 Section 3c)

Sorry.
