I am having a slight problem with my bike, first thing that was noticed was that the engine sounded very strange, the sound was much deeper than normal and then it cut out, luckily right outside my house. After a bit of messing we noticed that all the coolant had gone but I don't think this is related to it because my coolant bottle is split at the top which I do need to replace. We took the tank and air box off and started it and noticed that the overflow pipe between the two left carbs was literally having petrol flowing through it. After a bit of messing it seems like the most left hand carb is constantly flooding, yet everything seems to be working ok when the throttle is twisted. One idea that I've had is that maybe one of the cylinders isn't firing but with me not having much mechanical knowledge I'm probably wrong, I have had a float problem suggested to me by 2 people but I have no idea what to do as to checking anything.

Upon further inspection one of the cylinders is not firing, used the good old hand on the downpipes trick, a spark plug or four is now in order so hopefully I'll be able to find somewhere tomorrow that has some in. Other than that does anyone have any other idea's if it could be anything else and it is the left hand cylinder that isn't firing so I'm guessing that this will be my problem in the end, case closed? Confused

Hi

A flooding carb is likely to mean that either the float height on that carb is set wrongly (possibly due to a holed carb float), or that there is some dirt stuck in the needle valve (the float operates the needle valve, closing off the fuel supply to the float bowl as the fuel level reaches the correct amount). Often this will work OK if the engine is running, especially at higher revs, but will fill the engine with petrol when parked.

Check the oil level on the bike. You will probably find it has gone up having been diluted with petrol.

All the best

Keith
