Let me start by saying I'm all for awareness of bikers, we all know the risks and down sides, but for me that's the point here.

https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/9580579.Videos_to_highlight_biker_risks/

This 'concept' while a credible plan I think might be a little misplaced, ill-thought out even.

What is the point turning up to a biker venue and showing a few peole out for a nice ride the dangers of what they're doing?

Should they not be sat with the van in supermarket doorways hassling the average Joe driver who are the root cause? I may as well go sit with a TV at Squires and show a load of bikers a clip about not buckling a child seat into a car properly.. as opposed to showing it to mothers at a nursery.

Thoughts?

Making local bikers aware of roads that are seen as 'the worst' in terms of bike accidents, both minor and serious can only be a good thing.

Heck, even if one rider in a big group thinks 'Oh, I watched a video about this road, apparently this junction is a nightmare!' and slows down to make the group slow down, it's a worthwhile venture.

It's the same as BikeSafe, showing people where the danger is and teaching them how best to negotiate it.

You're missing the point fella, they're preaching to riders that live there, see the constant blaze of off's and deaths there.. It's my regional back yard, we already know what they're showing us, we're the people that it's about.

While the people who cause it are not shown it and remain oblivious.
Spending a week doing shows at supermarkets would be twice as productive as a show a month at 1 bike venue.

I can see where the idea is coming from, and although it is good. I agree with steve..

Its kinda like saying, making me watch that video is going to make that car not pull out on me... Hang on... Its not. What if the car driver was shown a video? Now he can see theres a bike coming! Hes been made aware.

Seems like another slight victimisation of motorcyclists again, they're trying to make us aware of the risks.. of course we know about the risks! We've got our death beacons on high alert searching for the car thats aiming for us.

The video would only really be valid for born again/unexperience riders coming into the sunshine on there Rocketship thinking they can take the corner at warp factor 5. In that respect, the video would work, reminding them they can only handle warp factor -0.1

Hang on, while 3/4 of bike KSIs are multi-vehicle at junctions, that still leaves a good number where Ronnie Racerep has offed himself with no assistance.

There are a few roads and bends where riders do keep exceeding their ability the road conditions year after year. This isn't "you're breaking the speed limit, think of the kittens" finger wagging, it's "you're breaking your necks, think of your kids".

I'm not sure what you'd prefer? Instant/Average speed cameras, run off areas full of cotton wool? It's The Man's job to deal with this, and He's not going to stop until we do.

Reminds me of after my theory Bike test I watched the video they were thinking about adding to the end. The video was just two teenagers in a car talking to each other then the driver looks behind him to grab a bottle not looking at the road then front ends another driver.

Some times the people behind these videos have got to have some form of special needs, everyone know what happens if your not focusing on what your doing.

The riders at a motorcycle meet are probably, however, much more likely to take interest and pay attention; rather than those at a supermarket, who no doubt believe they are excellent drivers and are focused on completing their shopping without their screaming kids being fiddled by a paedo.

I wonder; 'promoting' the 'safety' video, on 'social networking sites'; providing 'racing routes' and 'how not to crash advice'.....
Hmmm... any benefit from the 'how not to crash' advice, me thinks likely to be rather outweighed by the number of people heading off to find these great 'racing routes' Embarassed
