Hi all,

Have just been reading T.W.O. They feature a duke 748 at the back and are comparing it to a GSXR600. An interesting point I just picked up, there is a little asterix at the bottom of a column which says that 3 years NCB is mandatory to get insurance cover for a 748, is this correct and if so why?

Seems strange.
Cougs! Very Happy

Ooh that's weird. Although I expect it's true. It's a similar thing with cars though, you have to be 50 and have 30 years of NCB to be able to insure a 1988 Fiesta XR2i these days. Rolling Eyes

There are bound to be some companies who will insure you for it though.

As bike mags don't care as much they would have only phoned one insurance company. That clause is only likely to apply to one or two insurance companies and not the majority.

I was the same with the Blade. Most places wanted me to be over 25 or have over 3 years NCB.

Hmmm I doubt you would really need 3 years no claims. I got my R6 insured easily, don't have any no claims or anything and they didn't even question it. They just gave me a cost to update the insurance and that was it!

So I doubt you would HAVE to have 3 years no claims on a 748.

They are private companies so can do what they like to a large extent.

My father got quoted £2700 to renew the car insurance with my sister (17) as a named driver! That was up from about £500.

All the best

I've never been told I needed a certain amount of NCB or age to insure a bike, only thing I was told was you have to be 25 to insure a WRX (not a bike so who cares).

The insurance companies dont actually mean that its mandatory for you to have three years NCB, they only wont be able to quote competitively. The real thing that they are concerned with is your driving history, ie have you made any claims in the past three years etc. Stuff like that.

What I have heard of ins comps doing is not quoting if they know that they cant provide a decent quote, so they may say you will have to have three years NCB, (50% discount). Otherwise word gets out that there expensive. Smile
