I need the head gasket replaced and was thinking of giving it a go myself. I had the gasket replaced a couple of years ago and reckon it will cost over 200 euro (Dublin prices).

However, I'm not totally confident on doing this myself. Should I leave it in to the workshop or is it not such a difficult job as it appears.

Can someone give a brief description of how to do the gasket, piston rings etc ... also are there any guides about that can help.

Thanks
Bren

It's a piece of piss Smile

The cyclinder head on the NSR is just a lump of metal with a few holes, you will probably have to drain the coolant. Make sure you clean all the old gasket off and don't get any crap in the engine, use some fine emery paper and white spirit/parafin and just be careful that you don't scratch the mating surfaces. Then just tighten the head bolts to the correct torque. If you download the manual then you can see how easy it is Wink

If you do the piston rings it might be easier to take the engine out, I found it a bit tight so took the whole thing out. Oh and I am rebuilding most of the engine, no experiance before with bikes or many cars, so have alot of other people so it's not that hard Thumbs Up Very Happy
