Hi, im new to looking for unclassified roads on OS Maps, looking at the forest near to a friend i have seen what looks like ridable unclassified roads. Could someone clarify me that according to the map they should be legally ridable?

Thanks

Dan

The problem is the maps just show what's physically there, not it's status. Forests tend to have roads built by their owners so that they can get the cut timber out easily. These may or may not be public routes.

Have a look at the rights of way key on your map. Do any of the tracks have the ORPA markings along them?

White roads/UCRs/ORPAs are one thing to one County Council and something else to another. Some Councils will admit to them having vehicular rights whereas another have for some reason decided otherwise.

The best advice would be to not trust what the OS map says and to visit your local council office and ask to look at the definitive map. This is a public document and anyone has the right to inspect it.Then ask to look at the list of streets which is where UCRs should be found.

The TRF ( www.trg.org.uk ) are known to be the first place to ask/visit for vehicular rights of way information in England and Wales.

I'll guess you mean www.trf.org.uk and not the Tory Reform Group. Wink

But then the tories do need to be reformed Laughing
