first of all the bad bits
left upper panel has a crack around the indicator and above as the pictures will show (previous owner)
seats are a bit old and tatty but not falling apart
can get a perfect seal on one of the radiator pipes so it weeps a bit of water. not enough to be a major concern but i check the water whenever i use it. I have topped it up about a cup full since the rebuild.
mud guard seems to be peeling. Not sure what exactly is peeling but ive taken a picture.
I actually dropped the bike today and the right upper panel now has a crack too in a similar place. Im currently looking into a pair of new panels but will see how things go. Obviously wont replace them if its not worth the cost etc. This was the only damage as the panel landed on the project bike which also fell over. A good day for the bikes!!
good bits
fully rebuilt within the last 500km. and also chewed up a powervalve, so its had another part rebuild since then.
The valve for some reason touched the piston and locked up the ring. its had (another) new vertex piston and valve. This didnt cause any damage it just dropped all compression
front tire was replaced around the rebuild time. front and rear bridgestone battlax BT090's, both with loads of tread
front and rear discs in good condition and has had new pads not long before the rebuild
all paints and plastics are original which is why i havent tried to repair the crack.
front shocks stripped and cleaned and had new seals and oil.
front and rear brake lines changed to HEL white braided lines.
front brake light switch is a goodridge pressure type rather than the normal mechanical switch
rear master cylinder is a ducati 916 model
rear sets and levers, headlight surround, swing arm and various other odds and ends powder coated black
wheels and a few other bits powder coated gold
new front and rear wheel bearings
most bolts changed to stainless steel including engine and panel bolts
headlight has been converted to point in the right direcion for the UK which i believe most of these dont have.
front adjustable brake lever
a few parts have been zinc plated to fight corrosion
progrip grips and new bar ends that dont stick out and arent fluorescent blue
new slightly tinted screen and as you can see ive put on the white vinyl to cover up the back of the clocks
new clutch cable
new clutch
new chain and sprockets by renthal
engine rebuild info
73037 barrel replated and stage 1 tune at stan stephens. after this the forged piston i had melted. I have since had it replated again and this time with a vertex cast piston. commonly used and highly recommended, even by those who race these bike.
crank rabuilt and balanced by stan stephens with a new big end bearing
vertex piston and bearing. correct size chosen after the last replate
gear box shafts have been properly shimmed which makes the gear changing a lot smoother than it was before. It was actually stuck in gear when i first got the bike
all new seals and gaskets and main bearings and seals.
timing has been set up to 1mm BDC as it should be using a timing light as the infamous timing tool doesnt exist anymore.
dellorto PHBH28 RD carb (the good one) stripped and cleaned and rebuilt with a few new jets and float and all seals.
new air filter
everything cleaned, regreased, or not depending on whether it needed grease or not. anything that would be hidden away, eg the wheel spacers were greased to help against future corrosion.
probably lots of other little odds and ends but ultimately, the bike works and works well. ive started getting it into the power band now and it pulsl very nicely. Ive stiffened up the rear end as it seemed to be 'floating' with my weight (64kg, 10.5stone ish). feels a lot more stable in the corners now.
i cant think of what else has been changed
The carb/exhaust/air box set up is the mk1 type. The evos normally came with a 35mm carb or a BD carb but the RD delivers better fuel at higher revs/throttle opening (via the power jet) and the air box (mainly the lid design) and the exhaust make good use of it. It mostly provides a bit of extra low down torque, not that there much in a 125 2t, but up in the power band you almost cant change gear quick enough because it really pulls through them.
also comes with an original toolkit and owners manual.

reason for selling is purely to go up in the world to a bigger bike. Not because i want to, but because the opportunity has come up so im going to go for it.
please PM me for further details and ill try to sort out any info you need.
Im going to put up and asking price of £1400 as thats what has been suggested but obviously the damaged panels will affect this. This price was actually suggested with one damaged panel but not two.
The bike has only been out in rain once as it started while i was out and at all other times is storage in a locked up secure unit nice and dry. I only ever take it out in the sun.
bike is located in Brentwood, Essex
*****forgot to add something important ******
just applied for a new years tax beginning end of march
and the MOT runs out on 11th April but I have no doubts it will pass a proper MOT let alone a stevie wonder job. only problems last year was a almost worn front tire which has been replaced and the foreign headlight which they overlooked but that has also been modified, suitable for UK roads. In fact an MOT tester will be surprised its actually pointing the right direction.
also an (almost) full tank of fuel. |
