road tax / insurance

Been done to death, but I fancied a rant:

Insurance ran out yesterday, I'm gonna let it lapse as I'm not in the country for a while. So I go to sorn online and it's not allowed as I have to return the tax disc too.

I then fill in the refund form (X in the sorn box) no photocopies, but you can print it I also had to do this on the PC using a wacom, email to someone in the UK in and now they've posted it (before midnight so it gets the first post of course).

The thing that's stupid though is that it is impossible to let your insurance run all the way to the end and then sorn it without technically contravening the regs. That and I have to wait at least 21 days before I re-insure/tax.
