Budget is £400.

Want 37" HD.

Mainly watch sport.
Speaker quality isn't important. Motion quality is.

Can you help me narrow down the search please.

Could always get one like this, 40" TV, HD-Ready for £299.5.

With a budget of £400 you could get something very nice. If you can I'd suggest going with a friend who has access to a local Costco if there is one near you. Their TVs are usually around 5% more expensive than other places but I've known people give TVs back that have broken after 2.5 years and had it replaced with a current-spec model + money back. Their guarantee is fantastic.

Other than that? Ones like this 40" HD-Ready LG will do.

Personally? I think LED TVs give better picture quality than LCD/Plasma. The ones we have are 3D-Ready but it's not really that good.

Just find the biggest one you can that you like the look of and has the nicest picture (in your opinion) which has the correct amount of slots on the rear (Such as 2x HDMI, 2x USB etc) for the best price you can find.

But my final word is that, if you can, buy one from Costco, the guarantee is fantastic and you don't even need to keep the receipt as it will be on the card of the member you bought it with forever. My Mother's old laptop, the screen smashed (may or may not have been stood on Confused) after just over 18 months having it, rang up, they came and collected it, took it away, provided us with a new one which they delivered to our house within four days all free of charge. They are just the best.

Cheers! Thumbs Up!

Thanks for that. It's helped me focus.
I think I know someone with a costco card.

LED yes, but is LED backlighting any better?
Refresh rate. Like a PC monitor, so higher the better yeah?

I have Cable so don't need Freesat etc.

Good, if you can ask them to take you in to one to buy the best TV you can afford, do so. That way if it ever breaks they can take it in, return it and get a new one for you free of charge in pretty much any circumstances.

Not really noticed backlighting, I guess that must be a good thing. My previous TV was an LCD TV.

The main thing I do notice changing was the dynamic contrast was MUCH better and now I tend to judge my TV choice on dynamic contrast ratio (a.k.a. the higher the better) as it allows for a greater colour gamut. This is my own opinion anyway and I'm not sure if it's the right way but it seems to work for me.

Refresh rates, higher is not necessarily better. In this country which uses PAL for colour encoding you're likely to find TVs with refresh rates of 100 or 120Hz, more likely 120Hz as it's the LCM 600 (24x25) for standard regional frame rates. If your refresh rate is too high/too low it could cause juddering. I am confident that any TV you buy in this country would be compatible if bought from Costco/Argos etc.

As I said, best thing you can do is go to Costco and find the TV that you like the best in terms of looks, image quality, sound quality and inputs that is in your budget and buy it. Thumbs Up!
