Insurance on a new bike?

So my insurance is up on the 10th.

The base gasket has just gone on my GPZ, it needs a new front tyre, a new rear tyre, a new chain and sprocket, new downpipes (a new hole has just reared its ugly head), left fork seal needs doing, needs new mirror.

I've been quoted £200 for the year on it - TPO.

Now... all this work it needs is important stuff, the legal stuff (tyres) I'm going to have to spend a bit.

I've been offered a CBR600 with 30k on the clock for £700 (1991) just had a service, new front and rear tyre, new chain. Everything is basically sound, 12 months MOT & tax.

It's from a friend so I don't have to pay all of it up front, he doesn't mind paying over 2/3 months, which should be fine.

So for starters, does this seem like the best option? I'm leaning towards it already...

Secondly, how the hell do i get my insurance quote down from £450?! It's £200 on the GPZ!

I'd change bike & sell the other as a project on Ebay for someone. Insurance quote is very high - how old are you? I just got a quote of £90 for an 2011 MT-03 fully comp.....I am most likely a bit older than you though

Meh the GPZ still runs alright, I'd rather keep it than sell it for the mere £200 or whatever it would fetch. It's MOTed for 10 months anyway.

I'm 23 and I've got 2 years no claims bonus on bikes. I just don't see why I should have to pay so much. To insure myself on a Suzuki Hayabusa 1300 it would be £300. Lolwot.

Stop quoting TPO, try some FC quotes.

Insurance is mental, stuff like a B King or TL1000R are around £300 TPFT

But CBR600rrs and R6's looking around a grand

Your insurance is cheap dude. Any bike for me is about 1k..well, that's bikes that's I like, anyway. Lol

It's £450 for fully comp.

Moral of the story? Get a 1000cc if you can afford it...

I could save up for a 1000cc but I feel like I should get a 600cc first, if I go straight to a thousand I don't get to experience the steps between!

You should try and find some young drivers car insurance before thinking of buying a new ride.
