Hi all, I've owned my standard CBF 125 for about a month and it's developed a mysterious clicking noise.
As I'm gently decreasing speed usually just under engine braking, I get a rhythmic clicking in time to engine speed, ie the faster speed, quicker clicks. It's loudest when I drop down into 2nd gear and let the clutch out. It's booked in at honda on Friday but I was hoping someone could enlighten me before it goes in.
It doesn't make the noise when accelerating or when just letting off, ususually I have to change down for it to start.
Thanks for any help.

In warranty? "They all do that. Now push off."

Out of warranty? "They all do that. £80 then push off."

What sort of clicking are we talking? A metallic ping, a whacking sound, or could it be an electrical arc? What sort of frequency?

Is it definitely related to engine speed rather than road speed? Because my first suspicion would be the chain or sprockets, particularly as it's happening under different load conditions.

Probably get it under used bike sales 60 day warranty.

Imagine there's a tooth missing on one of the gears, definitely metallic. It's relative to road speed, should've noted that sorry. Feel it through the foot pegs, definitely gearbox area maybe sprocket

It will be the chain, it always is.

Ha, sure, if road speed, then chain or sprockets. Check the teeth, the tension, look for tight spots (turn the wheel and look for any links standing proud of the rear sprocket as they go around), and that it's running straight. God knows what's been done to it before you got it, the wheel could be well out of alignment.

Well it had just been serviced so I thought it would be fine. It wasn't.
Chain had at least 120mm play... Literally.
Turns out whoever adjusted it, left the right adjuster finger tight.
Just tightened it up and it's smooth. No noise.
Once again thanks all for the help. Much appreciated, happy biking.
