Swinton got my details wrong...

So I've just received my insurance documents from Swinton.

It says I passed my test on the 8th of June 2011.

I passed my test on the 1st of June 2011.

NOW... I got this insurance through confused.com - when they asked when I passed my licence, it only lets you select a month and a year, so naturally I chose 06-11.

Now... I would bet my bollocks that if I were to claim, they would use this as their "get out of paying" excuse, like any good ripoff merchant does.

They want £25 to change this date... now two things:

1) WTF.
2) Where did this magical 8th get plucked from?

I have just insured my bike with Swinton and they got my details wrong too. There was a six month gap between when I actually passed my test and when they said I had, they put me down as a homeowner and that I owned one bike not two. I bought from comparethemarket too so I guess there is some glitch between their system and Swinton.

Although they didn't try and charge me £25 to change the details though, I called up within the first seven days to rectify it.

After using Go Compare it copied some of my details over wrong. Mainly my CBT/provisional licence date so this is slightly different but I just went into my local Swinton branch and they sorted it out for me straight away there and then for no charge.

Tell them to fix their deliberate 'mistake' at no charge or to shove their insurance up their arse. Classic example of deliberate, pre-meditated fraud.

When I moved house I informed them of the change of address, the envelope came to the right house, but the docs had the old address on. Went through this 3 times!! in the end I gave up.

Didn't get charged the change of address fee though as we convinced them they didn't need to charge it

Didn't you all get phone calls? I'm with Swinton and went via gocompare - Swinton called me up to clarify all my details...

1. They should change it free of charge, ring again and speak calmly / politely and explain the mistake. You probably just got through to an idiot.

2. Even if you don't bother they won't be able to get out of paying as they'd have to prove you intentionally deceived them or that the risk was higher (and having a license for an extra 7 days does not equal more risk).

3. Cry data protection act if 1 doesn't work - they have to provide your data to you (which they have done) and although they may charge for providing data they have to correct it free of charge.

As long as it's not going to affect me, I'm not bothered. It's not like I plan to crash either.

It would not concern me, an insurance company couldn't use that to wriggle out of anything, the insurance ombudsman would take your side if it got that far.
