My partner took out her first years car insurance with Admiral last year and being her first year it was very expensive.

A few months after the car insurance started, she sold her bike.

She had around 5 years insurance on a bike and never made a claim.

Now her car insurance is up for renewal I asked Admiral to take her no claims into account (she has been continuously insured without claim for 6 years now) as she wasn't needing her no claims to renew her bike policy.

They have said that they won't accept bike no claims.

Is this normal?

Does it matter that the no claims was built up on a provisional?

I tried using a comparison site and it was just returning an error because the no claims time was longer than she has held a full licence for.

Chris

Thumbs Up

Some insurance companies will mirror a bike NCB on a car, Carole Nash for instance.

A lot of insurance companies won't take bike no-claims into account, despite bike accidents being considered as relevant to to your history.

I moved five years no-claims on a bike over onto a car policy with Tesco two years ago. They were OK accepting the bike no-claims but I think they had some sort of qualifier for it, like that it was a discount for year 1 then if I stayed accident free they would become "proper" no-claims on my car. Luckily I managed to wait until the year was up before I wrote the car off.

Incidentally, I'd never realised that you don't actually lose all of your no-claims if you crash. Despite not being protected my no claims went from five years to three after a write off, whereas I was expecting to start with none again.

Very few insurance companies will allow you to 'swap'.

Tescos should, as mentioned.

Another option is ecarinsurance - which also should do on their monthly policy. So you could get insurance for one month with the bike no claims if it's not too expensive, then use that no claims certificate for the next car yearly policy.

Ebike took no claims I had from a car and just put them straight over when I got my bike. Don't mention that they are from a bike and send them the certs when they ask for proof.
