Well spring is coming and ever since i watched a video log on youtube of a guy taking his GN 125 on a road trip type thing i really want to do it myself when the weather is a bit better.
But some questions:

1. Where to go? lol, i live in the midlands (leicestershire) and want to avoid motorways as much as possible.

2. How far is too far? It will be on my GZ125 which is slow at the best of times, and i dont want to go miles and miles on it really.

Thats all i have to ask for now. I enjoy my own company so i think i would really like doing this. Besides the furthest i have been in one go on it is like 18 miles, so it would be fun to go on a long ride.
Thanks

You want to travel somewhere a long long way away, but don't want to do too many miles? Laughing

My guess is the bike will outlast your comfort/attention span. Nowhere in the UK is more than 75 miles away from the coast, so fill up, point the bike and do a day trip.

Or stick a tent and sleeping bag on the back, and have a weekend away.

Go anywhere, if you ride into the sea, it probably means you`ve run out of road. If you want to go further, pack your passport etc and take a ferry / euro train to france for the weekend

If you ride to the end of the street, it may be far enough for some.
some ride to a local bike meet, to a race curcuit to watch some club/GP/WSB races, maybe thats far enough for them.
A day out to to the coast for fish & chips, is an excuse for some.
or instead of taking the 3-4 mile ride home, take the long way home from work/college or just meander down a road you`ve not been down for many years to see where it goes. you be suprised how far you`ve travelled before you realise

Kind of a contradiction, isn't it! Laughing

I'm wanting to do the same kind of thing though EazyDuz, when I get the GS500F insured (2nd of April), and I'm only just down the road from you. I'm up for a long ride out, leaving early morning and coming home late at night kind of thing.

I'll be doing it regardless, so join if you want to. No idea when or where yet though! Laughing

A good trip could be just to visit a friend who has moved away, I recently took my cbr125 to see a friend in Sailsbury (I'm in London) I think it was around 90 miles there and another 90 back, didn't go on any motorways (still got my L plates) so I got to see loads of types of roads which was great because I only commute in London and saw loads of nice sights.

One thing I will say is that you must plan to rest BEFORE you start getting tired, normally I start getting tired on my bike after an hour so on my trip I planned rest stops every 45 mins and it worked, kept me feeling fine for the whole day. Also you will be overtaken a lot on a 125 so try not to get in peoples way when you can help it.

Snowie needs to get some miles in....
I have given myself a deadline to get the DT to road, FED UP with having so many bikes and nothing to 'ride'! Easter is the due date!
So stay in-touch, and maybe we can have a little-bike excursion.
Snowie's looking at what shows and rallies are coming up, in and around. Spotted an Easter-egg run, and a Rock&Blues weekend in Derbyshire, so far.
Old-Vic at Coalville is likely; they have 'something' on most nights of the week.
I have an idea to ride out to Malvern; another to go to Warwick.
Matlock is another target destination, going up to teh C&F yet another.
For just 'something' to do.... toddle over here; got loads of maps and guide books; cup of coffee and some inspiration if nothing else!

When I lived in Weston super mare, the people I rode with used to plan a trip to bristol more meticulously that Ewan & Charlie planned their round the world trip Rolling Eyes

The ones I ride with now are more likely to phone up on a saturday morning and ask if you fancy a quick blat to the nurburgring.

Germany is more fun than Bristol Thumbs Up

Close enough... I think that Meriden Cross is the middle most point of the country, about eight miles down the road from me.

Have fancy map package & just stuck a proximity alarm radius on my house at 75 miles.... I get about three miles of coast-line in the corner of the Wash inside it!

Rack that out to 100 miles, I get a 'bit' of the Severn estury & 'Liver-Pool'!

120 miles gets me the North Wales Coast, a bit of Lyn, including Black-Rock Beach, and large part of Cardigan Bay; JUST into the Bristol Chanel, but does give us Weston & Bream, and JUST clipping a tiny bit of sea in Portsmouth Harbor; on the south coast; then coming back up the east coast we get Thamesport; Sa-arf-end; little bit of estury between Chelmsford & Colchester; then most of the wash, from Cromer to Hull; we get Skegness, but not Scarborough.

So I live JUST about as far from the sea as its physically possibly to get, in this country! (& Easy is less than ten miles away)

Sea-side runs from round here; well, Skegg', is probably the most do-able on a tiddler, but I cant stand the place. Its about 120 road miles, about two hours riding.

To find a 'decent' bit of beach; Have to do Wales or Weston. Favourite is at the reach of that 120 mile crow-flies circle; Black-Rock Sands, Llyn. VERY long haul on a bike; even on a big-one. 120 miles as the Crow-Flies, but by Welsh-Road, its more like 150miles, and 3hours riding, and that's using the motorways!

It's this kind of simplicity that make biking great.

Thumbs Up

Cheers for all the replies. Matlock is definitely one to consider, went there when i was 13 and it seemed a nice place.
Skeg would be my choice for the coast, yea its a bit of a hole but i would be going for the ride, not so much the destination.

How far is down the road? I looked on your prof but you havnt set your location.
I was thinking more leaving earlyish, then getting a Travel lodge or similar for a night at whatever destination i go to, allows for some chillout time and rest before the journey back the next day Thumbs Up

Sorry yeah, I used to be "jordanmoore" on here, but it's "J.M." now. I removed the location stuff too. Replied to your PM. Thumbs Up

Well, I've just applied for a job now. If I get it then travel lodge or something can be done because money wont be a worry. I was just thinking leave and return the same day to keep costs down. The more days the better though, I do need to keep busy.

if you are near quorn, there is a good road called wood lane (i think) runs past the quarry, really tight roads, should be fun on a 125
