I went online earlier to try and get a quote for the GS. I'm currently looking at going with wickedquotes because they were regularly the cheapest on the price comparison websites. Got plenty of phoning around to do first though, I feel.

In the quote creation screens there is, obviously, an area for you to put in the type of licence you have. The options are:

  • Full
  • Class A1 (light)
  • Class A (standard)
  • Provisional Bike
  • Full Car
  • Full Moped
  • Provisional Moped
  • Direct Access
  • European (EU)
  • European (Non EU)
  • International

For my bike test I sat the standard test on a 125cc bike, to get a Full (A) licence with a 33bhp restriction for two years.

I have also passed my car test in January 2012 and have a full car licence (B).

I'm confused as to which option to pick. Naturally I would guess that I would need the "Class A" option, but because they also have listed "Full Car", I am rather confused. I have a full bike licence (it just has a restriction code) and I have a full car licence, so should I not select the full licence option? I want to be able to select the Full licence option; it's about £30 cheaper!

Not actually insuring the bike yet - just getting quotes in preparation for taking out the insurance when the CBR's expires.

Cheers Thumbs Up

A, you have a full licence.

Always insist there is no A2 category, its an A licence.

Also, go to H&R insurance site, they quoted me something ridiculously low for a GS500 Thumbs Up

With wickedquotes it's looking £400-£450... and that's without telling them it'll be kept in the city most of the time. Neutral

When I had my GS500, I was...19 possibly? 2009, 3 years ago.. so 20.

0 yr NCB, 3000 miles declared, aftermarket fairing not declared, not 33hp limited.. cost me £180 I think. TPO.

They gave me a refund when I swapped to a Daytona much later Laughing Insurance - the real gamble of life.

Move down south, think I have a low risk postcode, even though the people/cretins that live around me prove otherwise.

There is also no "Direct Access" License either - don't understand why this is an option. I assume just so they can charge more.
