I recently spotted a KX 250 on ebay (now ended). It is a 1992 and doesnt run.

How much would you reckon it is worth?

I have seen loads of these bikes; CRs, etc from the late 80s and early 90s and people are still looking for for well over £1000 for them!!!!

I cannot justify these prices for off-road bikes since I paid £950 for a 2003 Honda Deauville (just over £1000 with tax and MOT) comparing them to off-road bikes.

Depends why its not running TBH

Factor in a replacement engine (if you can find a good one!)

End of the day - It's worth whatever what some mug is willing to pay

My example...

I picked my DR250 (early 90's) with a screwed engine (amongst a host of other undisclosed issues and bodges) and it cost me more than double any of my other bikes that were running just dandy

I daren't add up what I have thrown at the DR - I'm never going to see a profit from it thats for sure and more than likely won't get close to breaking even on it

I hadn't reckoned or budgeted on replacing what feels like most of the bike at the time of purchase

Seems "bargain" greenlaners are just not as readily available as other styles of bikes and I was perhaps a tad hasty buying the DR
- but it was local and I just about had the money together and knew it wasn't going to hang about
I had been looking for what felt like months

I'd never impulse buy again as I defo got burned on that one

The important bit..... I was willing to pay the money he asked for at the time

Regards
Rob

I paid £730 for a running (though did need some work, of course not stated in auction but not a massive deal for me as I wanted components for a project) 2003 KTM125SX from ebay.

So a not-running bike over a decade older I wouldn't be paying much for, personally.

This. I'm always amazed at how much some trailies go for on ebay and the like. I sold my 1989 Kawasaki KLR600 with 6 months T+T for £500 which up until that point I had been using almost everyday until I got a new bike so there was nothing wrong with it. I've seen similar bikes for similar prices in local free ads and advertised on local notice boards, might be worth checking them out.

I've been looking into it recently as the trailie bug has bitten me hard (again) so I'm kind of umming and ahhing about getting one as I can add one to my insurance policy for an admin fee pretty much these days (one good thing about having bike insurance instead of car insurance for years!).

Seems like crossers will always sell for over £500 in any state of repair on ebay, I'm not surprised your CR125 went so quick. It looks like old DT125's that have been ragged to hell and back are still fetching £500 as field bikes with no logbooks!

Seems like anything with KTM written on it will always go for over £1k and you can add a few hundred on top of that if it has supermoto wheels too. 1990's trailies like XR's, KLR's and DR's etc seem to go for around £600-£900, usually in pretty used condition. There are a few around that are clean but with pretty high mileage but then if it's just been used as a road bike anyway it's going to be in pretty good order for an off road bike. I always wanted an XR600 when I was a kid so I've been very tempted recently.
