You're going to be one of those beardy old men who works out his average fuel consumption for every trip when you get older, aren't you.

I do that. I'm a bad person.

I was thinking, thats about 50 quid on sets of fork seals alone.

It adds up to lots. Think of the working bike you could have got for the money.

Oh and you still need a rear shock.

Got to have something to do at work. Anyway, that is what Excel is for.

Interesting stuff Goosey.

I reckon I've spent about £250 on my GPz550 so far getting it back on the road and general stuff. Although sorting the brakes seems to be getting expensive. Sad

Need new shocks on my CB400... Sad Could go for some really crap Hagons for £101, or Ohlins for £400+.. Why can't there be anything in between!! I don't know if I can get my Showas rebuilt but that will probably be £250+ anyway.

All this on a student budget of £4k/year! Shocked

Now this is why I wouldn't necessarily encourage new bikers to go out and buy an old heap as you all keep recommending.
The time and money spent on fixing it up and continuous maintenance works out more expensive in my opinion, especially if you have to take time off work!

And a new comer could get conned on the parts and labour by garages because he doesn't know the prices etc.
I'm not saying you should change your tune, just let people know what owning a pile of crap involves Razz

I know what you mean about looking at statements.....I clocked up over £200 worth of pay as go credit last month by topping up with my debit card and I wish I hadn't looked now Sad

To an extent, but he has spent £900 there on items that have increased the value of the bike. That is the depreciation on a new bike from just putting the numberplates on it.

Some of those items he has bought are consumeables and could be required on a newish bike (such as a pair of tyres, although £33 is a bt much for fitting a front tyre). And plenty of people tart up new bikes by fitting braided hoses and the like.

2 air filters might be a bit much though! That is around 5% of the bill just in air filters.

All the best

Keith

Ooch! now I do feel old. Embarassed

It also gives you important reminders of when MOTs, Tax, Insurance and services are due which can be tricky if you are looking after several vehicles.

Now that is sad when you start eulogising about an excel spreadsheet, I will shave off my beard and never touch another spread sheet.
