Price of fuel

Heard on the news that petrol prices are on the way back up again, and are probably going to hit £1.50 by Summer.
No surprises there then, but to add insult to injury, the Government will not concede to demands by "Fair Fuel UK" to freeze duty on fuel, and intend to go ahead with a rise in fuel duty this year as planned.

I don't know if anyone has thought of this, but with every penny increase in the price of a litre of fuel, the treasury are gaining nearly 2p for every gallon sold, as over 60% of what we pay at the pumps goes in tax, so the Government score everytime there's a price increase, and then stick the duty up as well.
Nothing we can do about it I know, but it is getting to the stage where just going for a spin on the bike can cost £20 even before you've factored in fish and chips and a couple of fizzy's.

Err... in 1999 we DID do something about it. Taken the Politicos nearly ten years to try it on again. Maybe, just maybe the sleepwalking population of this benighted country might just stir themselves from watching Pop Idol Dancing on Ice and actually DO something.
Doubt that it will be the idolent young, gonna be us Baby Boomers again.

They hike up the price of at the same time they make it more confusing and difficult for people to use a more economical mode of transport.

I saw that the average price had reached £1.40 a litre. Had to laugh at that as it hasn't been below £1.40 on the A37 near us for a couple of months!

I'm far more worried that they might one day start to put a tax on sex.

I can handle them fucking me, but not if it's me that's paying them for the privelege.

Joking aside, this last budget has made at least 2x people redundant from my business empire immediately, that's just from the initial damage report.

If we cannot, yet again, adapt to whatever business model 'they' deem to be profitable, we might have to shut down & mothball a few divisions.

I'm good at what I do, I'm damn good at what I do. Everyone who works with me is bloody good at what they do also, but I cannot justify my current level of £risk against the potential £returns.

For probably the first ever time in my life, I am scared & I do not know what to do in the next few weeks !

anyone here who has been to holland, spain, italy, portugal, greece, india etc there are small bikes or mopeds everywhere, ridden by normal average ppl who find its cheaper and easier to take to 2 wheels to get about

It's already £1.50 here. Saw it at £1.52 at one garage.
Personally i think it's great. The more fuel goes up the poorer everyone else will be and the less stupid i'd look riding round on a tiny old bike

Don't forget that the scumbag government usually hike the price up "in advance ".
i.e. Budget in March declares a rise in September so everyone just focuses on the immediate rises (and it's always rises, never decreases).

Then they make out they are "The good guys " by not increasing prices after the Public squeels like piggies.
But we are already paying more in tax than the basic price of fuel in the first place !!

Your average joe, won't buy a scoot/ped cus there seen as non cool and teen transport. Besides the weather is a major factor in why most people won't ride one, generally it rains a lot... and people don't want to get wet.

Wouldn't be surprised if Osborne played a similar trick to last time, where there was a planned increase in duty and "at the last minute" pulled the plug and "saved the day".

Seemed to have a good effect last time, no reason why he wouldn't do similar again this time.
