I bought my TDM from kawasaki shop, I always go there to ask oil change.(they change oil at internet price and checks the bike too)
Last time I bought silver one(S4 SG) but this time they didn't have SG stock, so I asked them if green one(T4 SF) is alright, they said T4 is rather for 250cc class, Gold one(R4 SJ)is better for big bike, and R4 price is nearly same as S4, so I bought R4 this time.

I found a description on the internet by some kawasaki shop later.
1) If you use low or mid rev range mainly, you can use SF or over.
2) If you use for touring, you can use SG or over.
3) If you use high rev range, SJ or over.
But there is not much trouble which one you may choose.

Reading this one, mine seems to be 1) or 2).
I don't see many rider buy green one, but do some of you buy SF oil?

If it's true that "there is not much trouble which one you may choose", is it alright using SF oil for ZX10R and do a sporty run?

I read somewhere that genuine oil usually guarantee the quality even in such a extreme usage.

I've always run any Generic 10w40 Semi Synth in mine and never had an issue.

I never pay more than about £28 for it (3500 yen)

Yea... Never buy that fake oil Rolling Eyes

Just where do you think Kawasaki get their oil from..... Anyway you need yamaha oil in there, not Kawasaki, which is for a far better class of bike Laughing

I buy supermarket own brand stuff and its fine in my Versys.... Won't find me wasting cash on over priced branded oil... Embarassed

I've found the Castrol is usually cheaper than own brand equivalents.

SF/G is actually a remarkably poor quality oil by modern standards. I'm surprised you can even buy it any more.

Most generic multigrade oils come to SJ or higher no matter who makes them.

The cheapest engine oil for sale in my local petrol station is SJ grade.

I paid nearly double of it. I think I should find cheaper non brand oil.

It looks like branded oil is paying extra cash for nothing...

I didn't know this and thanks for this information.

This is super cheap!

I think I should try changing oil myself next time for the first time.
I may be the laziest one in BCF Embarassed

Hi

Most bikes have fairly low spec requirements for oils. SG is commonly required, sometimes with the JASO spec required for bike specific oils (often not though).

Wonder who makes the Kawasaki oil.

All the best

Keith

I think the requirement is mainly down to avoiding additives that upset wet clutches.
