I work at a motorway services and thought it was somewhat quite funny what happened the other day on my shift.
A car had pulled into the carpark from the motorway with a moderate amount of scratches down the side and a wing mirror missing, which brought some attention from a few of us at work.
The 'chavs' were identified by someone I work with as being from Colburn as he knew who one of them was, and Colburn, Richmondshire, isn't a particularly nice place.
Anyway, the driver proceeded to get out of the car, walk around and assess the damage and then try and rub the scratches off for a good five minutes.
He then got back in the car and rang for an ambulance.
They came and spend about 15 minutes getting him out of the car onto a stretcher keeping his neck in one of the brace things and then took him to the hospital, he must have told them he had whiplash or something.
I'm guessing from this he is going to try and claim something on insurance, which seeing as though the car looked like it cost around £500 he'd be getting a good return!

Maybe the adrenaline kept him going through the pain but then the shock set in.

See that was the point I argued to my colleague at work, but it did seem a little strange to ring the ambulance after assessing at trying the fix the car for a good 5 minutes.

Exactly this, rising insurance and taking away ambulances from real people is shite. That said, he's unlikely to get whiplash from a scrape down the side. I'm surprised the ambulance crew didn't just tell him to do one.

No way of knowing if he genuinely was injured and adrenaline was masking the pain or if he was milking it for compo. That's one of the reasons it's SO EASY and so many people do it, because you can't really prove either way.

It's a problem I can't ever see ending though.

People pay far too much for insurance because victims claim for whiplash when they don't have it. People claim for whiplash because they pay far too much for insurance and feel they're entitled to it.

Not everyone's like that, but too many are.

Remember a lad on my college course was from Colburn seemed canny enough if about as thick as a plank, apparently they have limited genetic diversity in the area (all the squaddies from Catterick must be nicking the decent birds Razz).

Could have been the effect of adrenaline/shock coupled with stupidity or insurance jobbie hard to tell without being biased they've already been labelled as chav and hence opionions are already skewed of their credibility and the latter seems more likely.
