Due to go to the Cat & Fiddle this weekend, problem is it's 180+ miles away (I'm from Gateshead) and the sat nav, of course, wants to use the straightest, most boring roads Britain has to offer.

Does anyone have experience with the iPhone version of TomTom? The advanced planning "avoid motorways" option seems best but it just picks equally as boring A roads at some point. I'm starting to think manually adding "travel via..." points is the best way but due to my lack of knowledge I reckon I'll be stuck on a boring A road for at least an hour eventually. Then there's the fact I don't want the journey time to be 6 hours+, so there has to be that balance. I should probably add petrol stations this way as well.

My mate who I'm going with has just went on Google Maps and selected all the roads he thinks look good but how I could get the TomTom to make sense of it I don't know.

I dont know if it helps? , but some TomTom sat-navs (mine) have an option where you can "avoid" certain parts of the route.

I can "Avoid" motorways and sections of route. I also have an option called "Find Alternative"

will they not help?

There's some software called "Tyre" which allows you to plan your whole route. If I recall it can be uploaded to satnavs, depending on model and thing like that. I know it would've worked with the TomTom software on my phone, but I never got a chance to test it before my phone went tits up.

This is it I believe, installs on your PC.

Edit: To answer your question, I believe you would have to add each individual "checkpoint" as a way-point on your satnav and then plan a route to all of them in the order you want them.

I use tyre all the time with my TomTom, its great

https://www.tyre.tk/

You just click on the map to mark waypoints on the roads you like the look of and then upload it to your device. You find it on the TomTom under Itinary Planning > Load route.

The good thing about the waypoints is you do not have to actual get to them, just near them and it will move you on to the next way point. This is a godsend in practice as my clicking on the map is not that acurate!
