www.tartshandbag.co.uk
(not that there's even any content there, now!)

Sorry.. couldn't resist Razz Razz.

Have a search for the Ducati Sporting Club Forum, where our lil' Viper has been known to reside, plenty of people on there with them.

haha like it, it is true, but what the hell! Very Happy

Goosey,

Not sure if I'm bored yet, making my mind up at the moment. When the R6 goes nicely I love it, but its been giving me a whole world of shit this week!

Cougs.

and a 748 WON'T give you trouble! Shocked
they are infamous for their shocking unreliability and fragility. I hear that the clutches explode, electrics are iffy and they do other scary things occasionally like throw rods!

If you want a trouble free bike, stick with Japanese. If you want a weekend joy in the bends that might go pop, that costs more to insure than a jap 600 and costs more to buy second hand than a Jap 600, then go ahead! Smile

I also hear that they are only a joy in the bends on VERY smooth roads...

but, its a 748

when it doesnt work you can mantelpiece it and polish it

jap bikes just annoy you when they dont work,

cougs the R6 is a yamaha, get rid of it Razz you dont want yours to be the next magnetically attracted to a crash barrier, if you can afford it id say go for it, the 748 wont be any quicker tho

Marjay,

I know about the 748's famed unreliability, I was just humouring myself thinking why bother sticking with Japanese if its going to give me trouble, might as well go italian!

Anyway, Im only considering it which I why I'm after info.

Cougs.

Oh yeah, and I've been quoted cheaper on a 748 than my R6. Very Happy

apparently the 748R is so much better than the normal 748 in reliability and everything etc. Don't know how true that is though.

You really wanted to make that remark? Going off Triumphs?

Laughing

The problem isn't so much the unreliability as the fairly expensive official servicing schedule.

All the best

It is a more of a sideways move as well.

If I could handle the riding position of either I'd choose the 748 for road riding, but the r6 for thrashing.

748 is a nice tarty upgrade and although it may not be faster, it's a new style of bike , different etc, more torque and mid range. It's on my "next bike list" Twisted Evil

Triumphs are rock solid admittedly, but the parts and stuff are more expensive than on a jap bike, and there are less dealers around. (Although admittedly the dealers all have a pretty good reputation.)

Plus I don't want /everyone/ to have a Triumph, and I can't see Cougar wanting a Daytona 600 if he is thinking about a 748! Smile

Also, since when does anyone listen to my opinion of Triumphs! Laughing

But, Triumphs /do/ rock! Cool

Daytona 600 is nice!

The other option is an 03 kwak ZX6.

I'm relucant to go to a litre because I can't quite justify the need for one and I don't think I'm up to it just yet. haha Very Happy

748 would be a sideways move this is true, but after owning an R6 It would be nice to have something a little less common. The reason for all this is that I'm not going to need a bike for everyday transport as of this summer, so want to exoticate for it (if that is a word!)

Cheers.

I've got to say that after owning four Italian bikes that the Blade, although common, is like a breath of fresh air.

I think, for me anyway, that you buy an Italian bike with your heart not your head. As I've said before, I don't think you can beat the Italian design houses for style but if you need something to work day in day out it needs to come from the land of the rising sun.

I did seriously consider buying the 998 or 999, I even looked at the Mille.

One of the other reasons I didn't get one was the cost of servicing. As I only have a bike for transport and do a good few miles each year the cost of servicing was just way to too much.

You obviously have different reasons for buying a bike to me though and you never know you might get a good one.

The Triumph Daytona is supposed to be a great bike and not too common or even the 955i. Even though it's a litre it's not too balls out like most of the other litre sports bike on the market.

I'm sure Marjay would be only too happy to pass on some words of wisdom about the Triumph.

I'd hardly say the 748/916/996/998 shape is uncommon, if anything there's more bikes of that design around than there are r6s.
