And I'm not really fussed too much on what...

Basically I want something that's either RWD or 4WD. Don't mind going old school but isn't hideously expensive to buy (tbh, the cheaper the better, as always! Unless there's a hella fun FWD (is therte even such a thing?)

However... it needs to be a 5 seater, sizeable boot wouldn't go amiss and being a 5/4 door will help but not the end of the world!

Just looking for ideas. I remember ages ago There was (I believe) old audi quattros that was a big 2l turbo and I could somehow actually get insured relatively cheap?! And it wasn't too bad to buy... though looking on ebay recently it's either changed or I have the wrong car... but I was pretty certain it was an Audi!

Much love

You can pick up a late 90s Impreza WRX / Sti for £2k - £3k these days, the decent looking square headlight models.

Insurance may be an issue though, I tried to get a quote for a '98 model with some light performance mods, according to the quotes I was getting back from the comparison website I apparently entered Beirut for my home address Shocked

It depends on your budget, if you want something RWD that's fun but good for the family, I'd have a look at a BMW 3/5 series.

This. An E36 325 or 328 would be perfect; if you really need space then a touring will cost a little more.

To my mind, the E36 is at the right balance point: most of the safety that's sensible, not over-the-top airbags etc everywhere and so relatively light still.... cars pushing 250-300bhp these days only seem to have the same (quoted) performance as my old 325 (measured, not quoted). Not as rear-happy as E30s, either, but will still kick the tail out any time you want Wink

If you need more space then the E34 is a good shout

Its an IX which means 4 wheel drive, good for confusing people when the roads get icy and you cruise up a hill in a BMW without getting stuck Laughing

Or if you want a nice noise with slideways hooligan potential
