I'll be tyre-kicking one of these for a work chumrade today, and seem to recollect that there were some issues on the pre-2007 ones, but not what they were. It's the carbed version (yay), needs an MOT ("just needs a bit of work then it'll soar through, mate, I'd do it myself but insurance blah CBT something") and the disclosed issues are:

1) Needs new rear pads.
2) Battery is flat.
3) Dash lights are out. Instruments are claimed to be OK.
4) Tank was sludging up, and has been cleaned out and sealed. Carbs stripped and cleaned.

Do any of these ring particular warning bells for this model and warrant further investigation? The MOT normally would, but we have independent confirmation that the excuses are legit, and it's priced to reflect it.

[UPDATE]
Important information: it's red, therefore well fast. Thumbs Up

I'd be wary of the electrical problems, could be just a fuse but more likely dodgy alternator which seems to be common (including on mine).

If the dash is knackered it's a bucket load plus import duties to replace (can only get the whole head unit including part fairing) so take a set of jump leads!

Has the cam chain tensioner recall been done on it? If not it's one of the first jobs you should do.

Carbs sound like someone has done the common carb mod - can get "loads"more bhp but generally just makes the exhaust pop and gunks everything up inside.

Mine was red too...

Dash lights are a PITA.

You'll want to remove the tank, remove both pipes on the bottom and remove the fuel tap. Swill a litre of fuel around there and just let it drain out.

The carbs are run from 1 cable IIRC so lube that up and make sure both mechs are moving freely.

While you have the tank off, change the plugs, you need a real thin but deep spark plug tool and the rear cylinder is a PITA to do also.

Battery being flat, might be worth getting a new one anyway.

Rear pads, well strip the caliper first off...it has a habit of being a cnut. Need to really grease the pins in there.

Overall, if it has had the replacement shock under warranty and runs well and can hit 65 with no issues its fine. The shock under warranty was on the 125s from 06>08. They used a cheap shit one and it goes without warning. Laughing

Mine was also red and had a fairly decent speed once modded.

Cheers, all, I'm going in firing cynicism on all barrels. However, we've got a Thumbs Up on it from another workmate - an ex pro mechanic - who's been maintaining it for beers and says it was a good runner before Winter, so I've no particular grounds for suspicion.

I'll definitely ask about the shock and tensioner though, I've just read a few threads about the engines assploding - might try and sell him my GPz 305 if he likes that sort of thing. Wink

Hmm, VOSA doesn't list those recalls, just a swing arm on '03/'04 models. Got any more details on the recall(s)?

Mileage is unknown, price is £650-ish without an MOT, and did I mention it's the red one? Very Happy

CCT caused rattles, leak then shits itself.

The shock was replaced on my 08 in 2009 when it burst with me riding Laughing Shop I returned it to said it was the 3rd or 4th that month and was added to Hyo recall list.

Offer 500 buy at 550' if yr mechanic mate says it,s sound then good to go, I mean you could get it legal and sell at profit so seem good, it,s also a bloody big looking bike and a good potential computer. Middle Finger

Hmmm... No. As you say, nothing on VOSA and nothing I can find UK specifc. NZ specific recall here. I Had mine done at BAT before I bought it as I read about the problems. They seemed to know about the recall.

I'm not buying it, I don't care about the price. Wink

Any idea what the specific issue is with the CCT? Does the spring tend to go weak gradually (i.e. get a bit of warning), or just snap or otherwise fail suddenly?

Actually, there's a dealer not too far away, I'll just give them a call and ask if they know about it.

Oh, splendid.

Do you recall which of these tensioners you had?

Thanks all yes even Warped.

Well, we turned up and the bike was already running so we couldn't check it from cold. Cracked mirror, the whole digital dash was FUBAR, corrosion on the swing arm, no pressure in the rear brake, front brake seized, front downpipe badly rusted, tyres totally flat, chain rusted solid, rear sprocket pointy and crumbling, it's got the big tensioners, and two dead pigeons in the water tank.

Needless to say, he's bought it. Very Happy

Eh, we'll fire in mob handed and see if we can make something of it. It's very red. Wink

It's a pre-intardtubes meme, I like to nurture the poor things in their dotage.

Best case it's a tin of hammerite and some VHT paint, a brake bleed, and some fiddling under the dash. Oh, and the horn didn't work, but that was just a corroded connector.

Chain and sprockets are £60 from WeMoto, used swing arms can be had for ~£30, but the downpipes seem to be a bit scarce. Worst case, it's buy from www.hyosungsource.com and wait for the banana-boat to arrive.

The dash is the biggest potential cost if it's genuinely shagged, but heck, it's not needed for the MOT and he can slap a bicycle speedo on it.

I pointed it all out, said that if I were in the market for a 125 at the moment that I'd probably take it on because I like getting mucky (I slapped a coke can shim in my GPz exhaust at lunchtime Wink ), but that I'm not him, and it needs work.

I'm not even sure he heard me, what with all the red. Rolling Eyes

You could possibly buy a full aftermarket kit from Scorpion.
