Hey peeps, i'm 6 ft 1, coming up too 17 years old, getting a bike of course!! I am on a budget but i want 2 get a RS250, how fast you fast will a RS250 do Restricted to 33bhp? i have been looking about on the net and theres hardly any places that i can find that offer information on RS250 ( or is there something i should know which is Wrong with it ) and how much do you think the insurance will be? Any helps/tips would be helpful and any ideas you have, thanks. Smile
Mike

Hi,

Well, firstly you'd need to get your test sorted out, when your 17. Then you could start to think about getting your bike sorted. Have you ridden before? If you haven't ridden before, or got much experience then the RS250, probably, wouldn't be a great choice of bike. I've heard that it's a tricky bike to ride because of the high-revving 2 stroke engine. Insurance would probably sting you as well because of your age. Hope this helps you.

Cheers,

Will

yeh thanks mate, yes i ride everyday near enough, and have rode geared bikes but dont own one. NSR seems like a popular choice, but i originally wanted a 400 so when i'm 19 and have been riding for 2 years restricted to 33bhp it will feel like a different bike. 125/250/400??? remembering i'm 6ft1 Sad and on a sort of budget

Do your test, do your test!! Make this your priority..

I made the mistake of not bothering because I couldn't afford a bike at the time, only realised when i did to my test and bought a 400, then thought "Doh!" if i'd done my test earlier i wouldn't be restricted.. duh.. So with 2 years riding experience I had another 2 years of restriction to follow..

Well, lets say the restriction will be up this august, more than 4 years of riding experience under my belt now, and not all of them restricted.. Embarassed

But I'd say unless you want a fast 2-stroke which cud end up being hassle and lots of money, go for a 400 straight away, and have it while you're restricted too, cause they still go quick!

I ride a Honda CB400SuperFour and it did 110 restricted.. goes a little quicker now, not sure why that is because of course it'll still be restricted until August.. Wink I wouldn't worry too much about being fairly tall and riding a 400, some of the guys at our meet from 400GreyBike were fairly tall and riding NC30s or baby blades, and of course insurance will be a lot less than a 600.

If you fancy a more comfortable ride tho, the superfour I have is great, i'm just shy of 6 foot and find it well comfortable, gonna streetfighter it but since I'm in the same boat as you finance wise it's taking a while! Insurance group 8 means it's not too expensive either!! And the Japanese only ride them for a while then sell them, got mine 10 yrs old with 5,000km on the clock! Bargain!

An rs250 will feel cramped for some one that's 6'1"; maybe ok for Sunday blasts, but I wouldn't want to be riding one everyday, day to day.

I also doubt it copes with restriction that welll.
If you are going to leave it restricted, also consider something like the older cbr600.. judging from Laura's one they handle the restriction quite well and aren't nearly as aggressive as the newer 600s; a lot cheaper as well.

I think the RS250 motor would really complain at 33bhp, all i can think about is how gummed up and seized the powervalves and the exhaust ports will become, and all that black oilly mess that will drip from the ends of the exhausts. No dont get an RS if you have to have it 33bhp restricted, all strokers like to be screamed to death, and at 33bhp i dont think you could get much fun on the RS, as the full 72bhp barely pushes the chassis and suspension capabilities, so 33bhp would be no fun at all.
