Hi, just joined this forum this evening and i thought before i ask anything i should say a quick hello.
My name is Emma, i'm a newbie biker (passed my CBT last June but haven't been out on my bike much as in the school holidays i have the kids at home and i won't go out in rain!so riding last year was limited).
I would like to ask newbies and experienced riders.......
How many miles did you put on the clock before doing your test? (I have done about 400 but 160 of that was to work and back twice and i don't think fast riding counts as much as slow/town riding)
As i done my CBT 9 months ago would you advise a refresh coarse before doing my test? (I'm worried that i have picked up bad habbits/forgotten some of the safety checks)
I can't wait to do my test and even though i could do direct access i am planning on going down the restricted route - afterall 33bhp is a damn site more than i have at the moment and i don't wanna run before i can walk.
Sorry if this is a repeated thread and a bit long, but could do with other peoples advise and experience.
Thanks ____________________ Emz |

Its probably down to the rider. Some people seem to pass straight away, others dont.
I havnt done my tests yet, but so far i have clocked about 1000 miles since september and i plan on doing another 500 before i sit my tests.
If you want to check your riding is fine then get a lesson with an instructor. I think they are only about £40.
Oh and you really should practice riding in the rain. You never know when it will come down suddenly. Probably half of my miles have been in the rain |

The bike can handle the rain easily, just get some waterproof gear and put your visor down!
I did between 1000 and 2000 miles between my CBT and sitting my test. Not sure which figure it's closest too though, it's just a guess. Most of those miles are rush hour/filtering miles though. I passed both tests, easily, first time with no training after that though.
I wouldn't go for another CBT before your test, maybe book yourself a lesson or two if you're worried. It'll probably be cheaper as you're on your own bike and they will be looking to teach you how to pass a test rather than how to ride.
33BHP seems sensible and it's the easiest way to get a licence because you can take the tests on your own bike and get there and back on your own accord.
Good luck with it all ____________________ 2004 R1 & 2018 XSR900 |

Thank you for all your advice and sharing your experiences. I will look into getting a couple of lessons before i do my test - hopefully theres somewhere close that does them (i live in north wales - on the border to mid wales and there ain't much here).
This might sound mad, although i have my own 125 i am planning on hiring one of the test centres bikes to do my test! My bike is great for high speeds but for the slow manouvering i find it rather unbalanced. Might be cause it has wheels not much thicker than a mountain bike ____________________ Emz |

I was hoping you wouldn't ask that as i know most people hate chinese bikes...........but i done some research and decided lexmoto were within the 10% of chinese bikes that were okay. You can get parts for them easily and cheaply also my local motorbike shop service them. I have a lexmoto XTRS 125, i have to say i do love it - just wished the wheels matched the rest of it ____________________ Emz |
