It's my old jellymould (1989 F-K) and i noticed during a ride out that one of the two bolts that holds the side stand on has gone AWOL. Ok just a bolt i thought so stick another in and make sure it's tight.

The problem is i can't seem to find a bolt that fits...looking at the thread where it fits it looks like an M10 but an M10 bolt feels like it's cross threading as soon as it goes in! I've even hand started an M10 tap in there to check the thread but that feels the same.

I can't see any damage to the thread so i'm wondering if it's a different pitch...is this likely on a jap bike?

Support your bike (hoist it up, paddock stand), take the other bolt out and take it to a nut/bolt shop. Or even try and get a normal M10 nut on it. Or try it in the other hole, see if it goes in ok.

Well the other bolt looks like being a pig to get out...it was slightly loose, or rather not done up fully and is reluctant to unscrew any further (i could feel the head beginning to deform in the socket) so i did it up instead.

It's listed as 'BOLT, SPECIAL, 10MM' so it looks like i was correct with the thread diameter but no clues there as to the pitch...David Silvers list it as a special order at £5.10!

If it's not an M10 are there any other common pitch sizes it's likely to be?

EDIT: I didn't read the thread properly.

I would +1 the 1.25 fine pitch guesses.

It'll be a M10 x 1.25. Fine pitch bolts in steel have a tighter clamping force and less likely to shake loose - both good ideas on a sidestand.
