Hello all, not keen on doing it myself so does anyone know of a company that will strip and rebuild my forks on my zx7r ? i can take the forks off and just send the legs to them ?

Not after a setup or tune so to speak, just new seals and oil.

Any ideas ?

Cheers

Bit far from me, I would have happily done them.

Have noticed a company on ebay refurb your forks for £100-£120, new seals n stuff. Bear in mind genuine seals for my bike cost £36 for the oil seals and £24 for the dust seals, you then have bushes on top of that and about an hour or two of labour.

you should be able to find a bike mechanic in your area that will do it for you, maybe ask around local bike shops etc... to see if anyone recommends someone.

but enough of that....get the pics of the ZX up.

As an indicator on price, I took my GSXR750M forks to Lee Bros in Sowerby Bridge this week. The old boy stripped them, put in new cartridge oil, new seals and new dust seals plus set them up for my 12.5 stone (5 clicks top and bottom), for £55.

The difference having the right oil in and the damping/preload set to my weight is amazing!

I hope this helps you in making your decision.

It's really not that hard to do, though in some cases an impact wrench does help.

So I'd certainly look in to doing them yourself - worst case, you can then always send off the pile of bits to someone else to do Smile.

You may wish to find out how complicated it is and price up the seals/oil before starting. The £55 I paid included parts that alone would've stood me at £30, so what was in effect £25 labour is a bargain unless you are confident you can do the job for less in terms of how much you price your time...

Ah, but you also have to put a price on "experience gained" Smile.

Fork seals on my bike was an utter, utter twat of a job. Main problem was getting to that locking nut by pulling the tube down which in the end, we had to use ratchet straps because it was impossible to do it by hand. There was also that special black tool thing and a little grey clamp to hold it in place.

Aside from that, fork seals were about £22 and fork oil about £28.

See I just split my forks without removing the weird locking bit in there. I just unbolted it from the bottom and pulled apart Laughing

Worked fine, they operate nice, although need them set up properly.
