Nice one, it really is hard to see what the fuss is about once you've passed it. Very Happy

Good luck with the mod 2.

Nice one, but do you mean under 32mph? Pass with a minor if you get 28-31 mph, no problem with going over (I've known people do it at 40+ and just get told "don't need to do it that fast")

No it doesn't carry over to your next module. You are allowed 5 rider faults on mondule 1, and 10 rider faults on module two, these are separate.

The speed requirement is in Km/h so a speed under 48km/h is too slow, they will give you a second attempt. If you go through at 48 or 49 km/h you will still pass, but will be given a rider fault. If you get 50km/h or over you will pass without fault (providing the rest of the exercise is ok. If you go stupidly fast you can get a minor fault for being a little over-zealous.

I'd love to know what speed you did, it is on your green test report.

The minor must have been for something relating to the avoidance then not exclusively to the speed.

I don't think it will be for going too fast, I've been told by instructor and examiner you can't fail for doing it too fast.

But they did say if you go too fast you will either not swerve enough to get through the cones, or you won't get back in line for the next cones. That will be what you fail on though, not the speed itself.

Also for emergency stop, faster you go, the longer it takes to stop... Has to be 32mph... so doing it at 35, you'll stop a lot quicker and in a much shorter distance that if you do it at 50.

Same with the avoidance, doing it as slow as possible whilst as fast as necessary will mean you give yourself the best chance of doing it as well as possible.

How can you have a fail for going to fast on avoidance? The examiners says the minimum speed expected. You're never warned of a maximum.

Exactly. Although examiners have "told off" instructors when people have done it too fast, not an actual telling off, but a kind of "your ones ALWAYS do it at 40+, its only supposed to be 32".

In my opinion there's absolutely nothing wrong with showing the examiners you can avoid something at nearly 50mph which vastly exceeds the DSA requirements. You're not always gonna be in an urban environment on a 30mph road when something might require you to take avoiding action.

He was defo failed for going too fast - put the examiner in a state of alarm and even though he executed the avoidance perfectly he was told it was dangerous as he'd accelerated through the avoidance

thats probably why then, idea is to avoid and slow down to a stop, not speed up

My mate got a minor on his test (before mod1/mod2) for taking too long to get up to NSL on a dual carriageway and another for failing to make progress. He's not 23 stone but he's heavy enough for a crappy chinese 125 and it took him about half a mile to get to 60 then wouldnt even get 70.

Not really much you can do about that though is there, if throttle is wound back to the stops
