Being not the most techincal of bikers i'm left confused as to why it has large flames out of the pipes. I always 'thought' only gas should be leaving the cylinder.

Do the homologation bikes have this as well? Can you still pass an MOT if your bike double as a barbeque?

I think It's something to do with the Oil Sump not being big enough?? I heard this somewhere but I don't claim to understand these things..Keith?

Cheers.

Hi

As Kev says it blows oil past the ring, which then burns off in the exhaust. Quite possibly forcing the oil past the rings due to high crankcase pressure, which is likely to be down to a poor breather system and a tiny sump volume.

The old Norton rotary racers used to do it as well, but that was because the used a total loss lubrication system, drawn through by the exhaust gases. They landed up dumping a load of oil into the exhaust.

All the best

Keith

Hi

Maybe longer term, but it is a race bike. Anything beyond the checkered flag means that they could have tuned it some more!

All the best

Keith
