Well as the title suggests I had a whoopsie.

Gearbox is what you might call, er, fucked, so last weekend it went from this:

to this

to this

More to come, including brakes / wheels / tyres / braided lines / 12R shock / BMC Filter / Plugs / Chainguard....

and ofcourse a 03-06 Z1000 gearbox. Smile

Well the zed box is now in. Here's the difference in the shafts.

https://i44.tinypic.com/2r3y0es.jpg

And here's my old selector fork;

https://i43.tinypic.com/dnhlww.jpg

Just got to decide whether to change the 9R Drum for the Z1000 one, and waiting on my refurb 4 pots to come. Then it's wheels out, powedercoat time, set of tyres, fit the new shock, piss off to Europe.

ive done this job lots of times now personly dont see the point in fitting the z1000 box for the sake of a selctor fork yes replace the fork it will go again but in how many miles 30000? so one change will take the bike to 60k
pluse once the engines out its half hour to change the fork 1 hour tops

It's not just the selector fork that goes, it's the bad design of the dogs that cause it to slip out of gear. You'll never cure that without changing the gears.

Mine was wankered by 14,000.

If I'm taking the engine out, I may as well do it properly. Peace of mind.

Quick update, I've got the engine back in and after many hours of swearing I've ridden it.

All works well, no more gearbox issues. Cool

Fourth.

Would slip in and out, was getting steadily worse. Very un-nerving to lose drive mid corner at 100mph, it'd be like you'd whipped the clutch in for a second.

My zx6 g2 used to do that in 3rd and 4th and ended up just being the clutch?

Zx9r C models are known for gearbox problems.

The clutch is fine!

All done now.

Doesn't look alot different, but I've done lots to it.

ZX12r Shock
Braided lines
Nissin 4 pots
New pads
BMC filter
Z1000 Gearbox
Scottoiler
Powdercoated wheels
Roadsmarts

And I cleaned it for the first time. Laughing

Got rid of the blue wheels eh? They look good in black! If/when I decide to do something about the flaking blue paint on my 9Rs wheels, I may go black too. I'm intrigued to see what white would look like though Thinking

Fair point! I just imagined that putting white wheels on the 9R would have the same effect as putting white stilettos on an essex lass... i.e make them look cheap and dirty (in the good way). I hadn't considered the fact that in reality they would look like the bad kind of cheap and dirty.

BT014's are wank.

Suspension set up is my job for this weekend, the rear is a bit hard and rebounds a bit quick at the moment. Front feels ok.

Probably balance the carbs too. Thumbs Up

Have you followed the PB suspension guide? Mines much better with a longer shock in, though I think I might drop the forks through a little bit. You really do need to hang off for it to corner well though. I'll update after the weekend, it doesn't handle badly now, but can get a lot better I'm sure.

The carbs are a bastard to sync on these due to the location of the threaded holes on cylinders 2 and 3. I replaced these bolts with take off stubs whilst my engine was out.

I dont know if Ive seen that guide...

I have done the basic setup of static sag, rider sag and put the compression/rebound settings back to near stock as a basis to go from but everything still feels really wooden and I have no confidence in corners, was thinking that the rear shock may be set too hard, but its pretty much stock and Im a fat bastard...

Dunno, I'll probs pay someone to do it properly when I have the money!

the zx12 shock is longer? You can adjust the rear ride height with the bolt adjuster on the top of the shock. Newer zx6 shocks fit aswel.

C1 shocks are rubbish, the 12R is the same length as the later bikes, with finer adjustment. Thumbs Up
