Your riding deep in the country far away from any city's or anything whatsoever. You have an off your injured slightly bruises etc but not seriously luckily just shaken up bike cant be ridden but not written off. There is nothing solid around to chain the bike too nor is there anywhere you can hide it.Home is too far to walk you don't know anyone who can give lift. You eventually get a taxi/bus back home. You don't want to contact insurance company to claim and for the breakdown cover pickup because you don't wont higher premium and because repairs ain't very costly in this case. You don't know anyone with a big white van to pick it up so how do you get a bike that wont work back 30 miles to home before some bastard nicks it in his own big van?

If you have breakdown cover on your insurance, it will not affect your premium. I had it on mine and had to call out the AA twice. Still got my no claims bonus. Just don't mention a road traffic accident, it's broke down.

Four options:

Hire a big white van and get it yourself (with the help of a couple of mates if need be).

If you are going to pay a shop to fix it ask them to collect (and haggle collection charges with repair costs).

See if anyone on here has a big van, lives nearby and will do you a favour.

Report it stolen.

Brush myself off, walk the bike back to the closest town or village (presuming it can still move...), park it up in said town or village, get a bus / taxi home, then get one of these "Man with a van" things that you find in the paper to go collect your bike. Bish, bash, bosh, job done.

Tell your insurance it was stolen and joy ridden and crashed

You could be honest and contact the police, if there was bike shit all over the road you could say it needs clearing and you could have got a lift home..but insurance would likely be contacted. Dunno.

... other than that hire a man with a van, there's plenty of them about Thinking bound to be cheaper than higher premiums Thumbs Up

Money is the solution

The recovery they do with insurance policies is seperate from the insurance.

It doesn't affect your premium, it's an added extra on to of your insurance. If you use it too often, they tell you you can't have another.

Van hire really isn't expensive. If I didn't have a few biiiig vans (lorries) in the family that is what I'd do. Means you can do it at your leisure and probably take a mate with you to help you out/make do all the lifting Cool

What I would do, is telephone Snowie, to come out to me on her bike, with a lock & chain or two in the top box. When she arrived; I'd put the bike somewhere conspiciouse; and tie it down, so obviousely not 'abandoned'. Then I'd two-up her home on her bike; get the car, go back strap it to the back and bring it back & sort damage.
Alternatively, as I have 'breakdown/recovery' with green-flag included on my insurance, I'd call them to come trailer me home.
50/50 which would be quicker, though.
Break-down/recover cover is a 'bolt on' to your riding cover, so shouldn't effect your NCB, though if you make too many call-outs in too short a period of time, they do reserve the right to cancell...
I once got a snotty letter from the AA telling me that Relay was not a substitute for propper maintenance after five call-outs in three months on different vehicles.... only two of them actually mine, and one of them for a puncture on a motorbike, I couldn't actually fix road side, despite the operator insisting that I ought to carry a spare WHEEL on my motorbike!
Letter back explaining each circumstance & telling them to check thier records, resulted in a letter from some-one with some authority, if no more imagination, apologising, telling me it was 'just' a routine warning, & they had corrected their records!

If you got it, USE it..... no point paying for something unless you do.

I'd probably have pushed it home by the time I'd finished reading and parsing all that.

Why do you keep asking all these questions?

Tell me about your mother.

I'd either fix it using the tool kit that I carry, or call autoaid using the mobile phone that I carry and ask them to send a recovery vehicle to rescue my sorry crashed ass.

That said, there aren't many places in the UK that don't have a gate post, a tree or a lampost within walking distance.

I invented it.

I used to use the "burger tied to string" to attract the fatties into the bush, but have since raised the bar Wink

I'd post at 3:30am about how I'd heard noises downstairs and had to chase 4 Yakuza out of the house on my bike and whilst on a high speed pursuit for the last one after throat punching 3 of them ran in to a trap set up by my old boss and got a severe kicking which had to be interrupted as I got a text from my mate's mum who said my mate had had an accident so bad he was in 3 different hospitals and I was needed to donate my brain as it was the only match in the world but since my bike had been caught in a stinger I had to fix the frame by building a welder out of an old traffic cone and a dead badger by the light of my watch but found out my mate was really at home in bed with the squitz so I went back home and got drunk and posted about it on BCF.

Oh hang on, that's not me.

Lie down in a field, whilst waving my mobile around, on the off chance that someone will see it.

It works, so we're told! Rolling Eyes

I'd probably call breakdown out saying it's broken down, then when the guy gets there, get a bit of "tip money" out and hope he's alright, some of them are happy to earn ££ on top of their normal wage, as my dad confirmed once!

I would do what vincent said and find the nearest person and get them to look after it. Most people would be happy too.
Either that or phone my parents and try to squeze it into there car again Laughing
